TTC with PCOS

I have been in the miscarriage forum for awhile.  I have a question for anyone- I have PCOS.  I was 16 wks pregnant and lost my baby over a year ago.  Now, we want another baby.  I am supposed to take Progesterone on cycle days 16-26.  My issue is if I ovulate, it is never until after day 16.  Am I correct that if I take it starting day 16 without ovulating, it will keep me from ovulating?

First of all, I'd like to say I'm deeply sorry for your loss.  As for your question - I don't believe it would keep you from ovulating.  I am ONLY basing this on the information I know, which is:

Progesterone is what controls building up your womb and triggers your period.  The progesterone helps build it up and if the egg is not fertilized, the progesterone level will drop and the endometrium will be shed.  That's why if your progesterone is low (which it often is with PCOS) you are in danger of miscarrying.

What triggers ovulation is the Lutenizing Hormone (LH).  That is what you are looking for when you pee on the stick to check for a "surge" at ovulation time.  It is this surge that sets off ovulation.  However, women with pcos generally have very high LH levels, therefore we don't usually get the surge, which is why we have problems ovulating.

Are you doing clomid or injectables?  Or just trying on your own?  Some women with PCOS do ovulate, but I was just wondering because if you are doing clomid, they should be testing your progesterone 7 days after you think you ovulated, to be sure it worked and that you did.

If you are unsure I would tell your doctor that you don't think you ovulate until then, and see what they think.  When I did clomid I didn't ovulate until cycle day 19-21, so I had to push everything back.

Best of luck!  Let me know if you have any other questions
