Question for those who have done or are doing IVF

I had my IVF consultation yesterday, but of course forgot to ask a couple of questions. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following:

1. How much lupron did you take? And how much does it cost (my insurance does not over IVF or meds)?

2. I know this differs from person to person, but what meds were you on and what dosage?

3. If you paid out of pocket, how much did all the meds add up to?

Thanks, everyone!

Heather

Thanks, girls! I really appreciate all the info and support ;-) My RE said that I'll probably be on either gonal-f or follistim and a low dose of menopur (plus lupron). I think I'm starting my period today, but since I have Factor V, I won't be on birth control...just lupron, starting CD21 or so. Then the FSH meds once I get my next period. I'm soooo nerveous about all of this. I just really hope it works!

Thanks again!

We paid 9700 for the IVf not including the meds, which was around 3000. My insurance did pay for mine but this is what it would have cost me out of pocket. I have some meds and needles left over. I still have progestrone suppositories, and POI. I think i should have ordered a little at a time. Make sure you monitor how much extra, like needles, alcohol wipe, etc.. you get. This can take up some money.
Here was my med protocol:
I was on B/C pill for about 2 weeks ( you will be on longer if they find a cyst)
Lupron .2cc (morning and night) for 18 days
Started Gonal F on day 9. took Lupron and gonal F 300, for 10 days. (My Dr. wont do anything until you are on the gonal F for at least 9-10 days)
Took my HCG trigger shot in the evening of the 11 day. 36 hours after the trigger I went in for my retrieval.
Good luck!!!

Heather,
first of all this is really exciting!!!
I was on higher dose of Lupron since I had a tendency to overstimulate so 20 U before stims and 10 after stims.
I was then on Menopur + Follistim on decreasing dosage (I was monitored every day since they were afraid I would get OHSS).
We also paid meds out of pocket and it was nearly 4K even though at the end I had some leftovers which I donated.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Heather,
I took micro dosage of lupron; first 10 IUs and then when I started stims I was only taking 5.  In addition to Lupron I was taking Menopur and Gonal-F.  My dosage was slightly adjusted depending on my e2 levels through the ivf cycle.  I think I was taking 225 IU Gonal-F and 75 IU Menopur most of the time.  I spent around 4K on meds but your bill may be lower if you take Follistim since Gonal is so much more expensive.  We also paid out of pocket for everything  :(  Hope to get a tax deduction since we spent so much on medical care last year.
Lots of luck to you!!

I am currently going through the procedure and I am waiting for my results on Friday. I took 10uts of lupron everyday for 2wks. then I took follistim pen and 5uts of lupron but the dosage of the pen was given to me daily as I had to report to them everyday od every other day to see how effective the meds where...it is diff for each person. Then when my folicles where mature enough normally....abywhere between 10-12 days later ofr when follicles reach 20mm in lenght is a mature follicle they give u the pre efilled injection of hcg 2 nights before your retieval. then after retrieval progesterone is to help the uteran wall be built well.....1ml of this is taken for 2wks til blood test done. I'msorry i really can't tell u how much becuz my ins. did cover this.....but i did spend about 2oo dollars with my insurance.......50 for pupron (1 vial) 1 prefilled pen ($50) and prog. ($50) the pen meds I still had left over from last years UIU which was unsuccessful.....I hope this helped u out al lil bit and I wsh u the best of luck with the procedure. do u have blue cross blue sield by any chance?

I will likely have an ivf in the next couple of months.  I'm going to do a cycle of injectibles first.  However, I did ask my RE this question at my post-op last week.  And depending on how well your body has responded to past meds will determine how much meds will be given (I always responded well to meds and have actually need my doses lowered.  He quoted from $2-4K for meds alone, which is right on par, as my insurance cover $5K in meds, seperate from the ivf procedure.

Hope this helps and can't wait for you to share your experience.

I know this will definately be your time!!!!
