The Shots!

I am needle phobic, it's extremely difficult for me to have my blood drawn. I finally went through EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). They tap various parts of your body (pressure points) to eliminate negative thoughts from your subconscious. Anyhow, I still have some fear...it's slowly fading.
I started Lupron two nights ago, the needle was quite small...but I couldn't give myself the injection. My husband has to do it. First night hurt a bit, last night was a breeze... :)
The one's I can't stop thinking about are the estrogen and progesterone shots.
I heard your bum gets real sore and you become real moody.
Can anyone tell me how they handled the larger needles. Did they hurt? Anything to make it easier?
Is using a topical to numb the area a good idea?
Help... I'm scared!

Actually you should ice the area and warm the needle.  Icing the skin numbs it so you don't feel the needle go in at all.  It definitely helps to have your DH to rely on.  I have to do my own a few times and will need to one full week when he's out of town.  You get used to it and sometimes I find it doesn't hurt as bad when I do it myself.  But you might need to eventually switch to the suppository.  I've been doing my prog in oil and del in oil for only 3 weeks now and I don't know how I will make it to the rest of the 7 weeks they say I need to do them!  My skin has welts and itches like crazy.  I'm starting to ice the area during the day and may get a hydro cream to treat the itching.  Hopefully that will help.  Good luck!

I agree that they didn't actually HURT, depending on your pain tolerance but if you think of it as a ***** or something.  NOW, I dont look when DH does it, and tell him to make sure he just does it, don't sit there thinking about it, or press the needle into your bum and then take it away, that was my fear.  As far as bruising it depends on you.  And warm the progesterone in your hands prior so it goes through the needle faster.  Make sure your bum is warm, too, its in oil so it makes the oil thinner.

Good luck!

Just look away.. The worst that can happen is it might hurt a little. Nothing you can't handle.  Compared to labor, it'll be a breeze. :)

I give to myself the progesterone IM injection..They are not a breeze but they are also not as bad as everyone says.I do alternate sides so it hurts less.
Relax everything will be good!

I find the Lupron shots to be quite painless, I did have to find the perfect spots to give the injection though.  As far as the progesterone, my dr does not do the shots but instead uses vaginal suppositories.  Maybe you can request those instead of the shots...?
