haha! I'm only 22 (going to be 23 in May).
how old are you? I always thought you were older?!
Not responding to any of the above. I'm actually suprised to see this here on this forum.
I just want to throw my two cents in on this, if I may! I was intrigued by the heading of this post and therefore read it - I appreciated the request. I am often doing multiple things - texting on my phone, instant messaging on my AIM, emailing and posting. I don't like it when I read 'texting' shorthand in my emails, either, so I appreciated the friendly reminder. (btw (which I believe is accepted shorthand for all of the arenas I aforementioned!), I am 37 years old!!)
I think that it is easy to misunderstand sarcasm within a written setting - since it's basis for comprehension is typically through body language and vocal intonation. I wasn't offended or otherwise. I don't think that either the poster or the first replier TRULY meant any ill will (although after re-reading the posts, the comments relating to the people who can't spell probably wasn't necessary), because I think, again, they were being sarcastic. It is, in my humble opinion (often abbreviated for ease of reading IMHO), that most people are able to tell the difference between those women on this site who struggle with the English language (since this is available WORLDWIDE, that would be a common occurrence), those that have trouble spelling, those who have trouble typing or proofreading, and those who are making a choice to use abbreviations....we all know that the woman posting her request was making that request to the latter of these choices. Her heading CLEARLY indicated that.
I think that everyone should also realize that there is definitive research out there that indicates when presented with lengthy paragraphs, text without spaces, and a plethoria of information, most people will either 1) not read it at all, 2) skim it without reading for comprehension or 3) read it but not have a full comprehension of it. With that said, there may be a 'neurological' function that has us use abbreviations, thus creating the illusion of shorter texts in order to get other people to actually read and therefore help us - which is why we are all here.
wow. I am probably one of the youngest ladies on this site and I feel like I just got sent back to high school. If you don't like how someone posts their questions simply don't respond to it. I don't think we should be fighting about it.
Just sending baby dust to everyone!!!!*~*~*~*~*~*~~*
You ladies have that Friday feeling:)
Wow! I really didn't mean to cause so much negative energy - I'm just gonna chalk it up to hormones?? I don't really feel like you deserve a response, but I'm writing it to end this silliness so we can all please stop posting on this topic - I'm sorry I mentioned the need for maintaining the type of clarity we've all been using in our posts for years now - yes, jjs44, for some of us it's been YEARS. I'm fully aware of when people have difficulty spelling, versus people clearly using text abbreviations. If you would like me to recount all the fertility related abbreviations, I'd be happy to do so for you. I could also give you a list of all the 2 letter scrabble words that are legal in the game - would you like that too? I have a pretty good knack for memorization. The point is, there IS a certain language used here - it was tricky to grasp when I started on this forum a YEAR AND A HALF AGO, but as tina1111 pointed out (thank you tina), there are plenty of websites denoting what these abbreviations are, as well as plenty of women on this forum willing to help decipher them. I hardly think I'd last that long on this forum without knowing them. If you read my posts in the endometriosis and PCOS forums (of which I have both), since those forums are new/relatively new, when it is clear to me that someone may not be aware of these terms, I will write the full term with the abbreviation in parenthesis next to it, so when I use the abbreviations for the rest of the post they understand. This is not misspelling, it is a commonality that is adhered to by the women of this forum. It is NOT BS text abbreviations for those who can't even bother typing the "a" in the middle of the word "can". I hope you feel better taking your negativity out on me, for simply trying to keep the language as it has been here, so that EVERYONE can get the best help, support and information possible.
By the way, if you MUST know.... this is a copy of the post that prompted me to write that post - the lack of vowels is quite the tip off that this is not just misspelling!
hi iv got pcos to with pcos ur periods rnt regular but it depends on what pill ur on. Im on dianette and i cn have month where i have a period and other months i dnt. The pain is probably frm the cysts as the pill ur probably on is supressing them and when u take ur weeks break they swell thats the way iv always seen it. I hope this has helped u. Id arrange to see ur gynae doc.
I didn't post the abbreviation thing. I do have fertility issues that's why I'm here. I thought the whole thing was really stupid.
Yes I have those abbreviations. I don't think ALT76 does.
There is a complete list of the standard abbreviations at twoweekwait.com as well as other ttc sites. Most of us here will skip posts if we don't understand what you are trying to say. If you want real advice from people who know the real deal and are wise to the medical ways, this is the best format to adhere to. The ladies that you are quick to jump on have been here for a very long time and have been through a lot of procedures. If you really have fertility issues (the reason for this forum) they are not people you wish to alienate. There is a lot of wisdom to be gained here from women that know from first hand experience.
Just to clarify. I think we've all been guilty of speaking before we think at one time or another. I just know that when I post things sometimes, I don't always proof read therefore, alot of mis haps. Also, I have a very close dear friend who is dyslexic. She has gotten alot of **** for not "using English" little do people know she has the problem she has and it's been very difficult for her so forgive me for being so defensive. I do not appreciate people who are comfortable dishing out sarcasm even if it's just a little bit and then not being able to take it. Just keep in mind that when you see "abbreviations" it might not all be on purpose, people do make mistakes. Honestly! How silly.........
zevasmom - UR hilarious! (teehee)
jjsh44 - I think you need to lighten up a bit - just trying to keep the lines of communication open for everybody to understand
I understand your difficulty in trying to figure out the abbreviations however the end of your post was mmmm a little sarcastic. Maybe you are showing your age and maybe you just shouldn't read those posts that make your eyes cross. English enough for you??
By the way what does dx'd mean? Saw it in your profile. Assuming diagnosed?? I'll be sure to only use the abbreaviations you know!
I dnt undrstnd prb... LOL... I hear ya!!! I have a hard time decifering... I think those that "text-speak" are possibly teenagers... I don't spend time on those posts... Otherwise, maybe they just can't spellle... LOL
