Trying to concieve after miscarriage

I'm a 27 year old mother of a beautiful 18 month old little girl. On trying for our second child we conceived first attempt, as we did with our first baby but were unfortunate to have had a miscarriage in the 8th week of my pregnancy. We had no indication of this happening until i had my 12wk scan. Only to be told that the fetus had stopped developing four weeks prior and there was no heart beat. I than had a D/C on the 11th of Jan 08. My period returned on 18th of Feb and I have had normal length cycles from than on wards. We were told that we can try again after our first cycle, so we decided to try to conceive after the next cycle from march. We did and were unsuccessful at our first attempt. I have been having some unusual cramping/pain between cycles usually just after and the week before my next period, that I've never had before and is similar to period pain but it is not during my period or when due. We tried again this month and my period is due on the 10th of May but I am pretty certain that we were unsuccessful again. Just wanting to know when is the best time to try and conceive again and is this cramping/pain normal?

I've just found a pregnancy test that can be use 5 days before your missed period. So i did this as I'm to be due on Saturday. I have some great news... it was POSITIVE :). I rang my husband at work and we are so very excited. Still keeping my OB appointment on Friday to double check and see if this cramping is going to cause any problems. I'm having what feels like my period is coming cramping at the moment but i remember having this with my first pregnancy. I'm feeling very positive that all will be well. Its now just a waiting game. I am feeling very nervous about telling family & friends. I realise this time need to keep it to myself. But i also want to scream it to the world!

Thank you so much again, you all have been very helpful & supportive :)

Thank you so much. I've made an appointment with my OB this Friday, so fingers crossed the cramping isn't anything concerning. I'm feeling pretty hopeful that all is ok. I'll keep you posted.

My 1st m/c was also around 8wks, but only discovered at my 12wk scan, and I had a D&C.  I never had any cramping at all.  I would definitely check in with your OB. I'm sure you are OK to TTC again but possibly the cramping is related to some problem that may interefere with you getting pregnant again.  For example, fibroids or endometriosis can interfere with pregnancy.

Don't worry too much, but definitely talk to your OB.

After my 1st m/c, and after my period resumed, it only took about 4 months for me to conceive again.

I've had 3 m/c, 2 naturally around 8 weeks and this last one had a D&C at 10 weeks in
April 2008.  They say to wait 1 cycle physically an to be sure your body, lining etc gets back to normal.  They 'suggest' 3 months b/c of the emotional effects.  I've never waited 3 months, b/c I'm older and it's taken us about 8-12 months to get pregnant between each one and I"m already 38.  Trying to conceive #1.  I think it's all in how you feel.

Not sure about the cramping.  After I lost them all, I never had cramping until I got my period.  Good luck!

If your dr said you can ttc after 1st cycle, there shouldn't be any problems trying. The cramping is unusual, though. I had a d&c at 12wks and did have some cramping for a month or so. Yours has been much longer. I would ask your dr about it for sure. However, if you did conceive this cycle, cramping b4 af is pretty normal when pg.
