first fertility dr visit

Hi everyone, This is my first post. I always like reading everyone's but now I finally want to join in. So here's the deal. I'm a healthy 27 year old I have been ttc for 13 months now so I went to the doctor 2 days ago to see whats up. It went well but I was confused. I've been charting bbt, checking cm and using opk's and all have lead me to believe that I do ovulate, every month. I have semi regular periods 27-29 days and I always get a side pain around ovulation time. Well the doctor told me even though I have a very clear thermal shift, positive opks, cm and side pains that it doesn't mean I actually ovulate.  Is this really possible? How can I have so many signs of ovulation but not ovulate?

I know its all so overwhelming, and I know for me having probs getting pregnant has always been one of my life fears! and now its true!  So it is very scarey, however the good news is that your getting closer to finding an answer to why yall havne't gotten pregnant yet and a way to fix it!! so you have a lot of very positive things that could come soon, that will get you to that BFP! : ) Lots of friends of mine have had pefectly clean work ups (tests) and gotten preg on clomid and similar no problem!  I highly recommend having dh do is SA as soon as possible, that test should only be around $100 and its so simple and 10% of couples thats the reason for infertility, I think too many people dont' get that done soon enough! GOOD LUCK! and keep us updated and remember your on the right track to getting that BFP! : )

Hi. I know it's so hard, try not to worry though, you may well be ovulating, the blood tests results will give you an accurate answer and if not clomid is v effective. We've been ttc for 5 years. There are lots of tests and investigation u can have, I am so much clearer now as to what the nxt step is, at first we were lost and making friends on this website has helped and people support you and u realise your not alone. We had been trying for 3 yrs when we decided to make an app,we had the intial checks, they did blood tests on me at different cycles over the nxt year and the conclusion was that some cycles I'd ovulate others I hadn't, my fiance's sa was fine, then last year I had a laproscopy investigation to check for visible probs like cysts, fibroid's and endometriosis, the results came back showing no probs. I then took clomid for 6 cycles and they do a tranvaginal scan to see if you've developed follicles and I had 2 n blood tests results proved I was ovulating with clomid, unfortunately we didnt conceive but it doesnt work for everyone, but I've had friends for whom it's been sucessful, I think I may have a leutal phase defect. Now after 5ys and 1mth I'm positive again because we have our first consultation in april to discuss iui/ivf treatment. Hope I've given u a bit of useful info,I wish I'd of got things moving earlier n not left it for the first 3 years, your on the right track. Good luck, keep me posted as to how u get on with yr results, clomidkid x x

thanks ladies for responding. its good to know i have people who understand my frustrations.
the dr's plans are to do a cycle day 2 blood test (which was today) to check fsh and some other horomones i can't remember. Then do another blood test between cycle day 18-22 for progesterone. I guess she's trying to figure out if i'm o'ing. If i'm not o'ing then she said she will give me clomid and do u/s. She wants get my dh in to check his boys out to see if they are swimming ok. Finally she said i'm i'm o'ing and the swimmers are good then she'll do an hsg. I have mixed emotions right now all this is getting overwhelming. All this time i thought for sure i was o'ing and everything was fine but now i'm worried something is wrong with me. I was late to work this morning due to getting my blood test done and when i finally got to work this one lady asked why I was late and I replied "i had to do a blood test". She replied "why you doing a blood test, are you pregnant." I just looked down at my desk and whispered "no". I wanted to cry.

It is definitely possible. I always word my reply posts with "should" o and "likely". Nothing in the world of ttc is a definite, unfortunately. All of the ways we can monitor ovulatory activity at home are excellent indicators, but not fool proof. The only way to say with 100% certainty that any one of us o'd is by an u/s. A cd21 progesterone check is pretty good, but still not 100%. Have they sched an u/s?

P.S. WELCOME!!!!   :)

Hello! and welcome!! this is a great place to get questions answered and talk to people going through the same things! its tough ttc! who knew!!!   anyhow, i'm also 27 and have beeen ttc for almost 13 months now too!    It is possible to answer your question.. I also get positive OPK's every month around cd17, have good EWCM, sometimes ovulation twinges all the things that show that i'm ovulating, plus AF always shows up on time..  I just started seeing an RE, they put me on Femara, to just help with the ovulation, and we did a trigger injection and IUI this month (they found out I have endo and my dh's SA showed very poor morphology so we went straight to IUI) anyhow they did an ultrasound after O time it turned out that my follicle did not actually release the egg!!! I've heard of such things but never thought it was possible!!!
what did your RE say your plan was going to be ?   We have learned so much just in one month of being with our RE!  GOOD LUCK and keep us updated! : )
