53 days since last period and a BFN

Sixteen days ago I should've started my period, but I didn't. I've tested twice and both times came up negative. I really haven't had any signs of being pregnant either...just a missed period and some mild cramps. Has anyone else had this happened to them? If so, what was the outcome? This is the first time since this has happened to me. I'm so confused.

Well I started my period today. Seventeen days late and she decided to stroll right into town. All I can say is at least I can have a peace of mind. It was driving me crazy. Thanks for the advice. If this happens again, I'll keep it in mind. :)

I agree with ALT76. Making a dr appt is a good idea and will let you know a lot more about what is going on than we can. I did have it happen to me once. In fact it was last cycle. The reason for the absence of period was a cyst in my case. It is one possible cause. Another cause could be an annovulatory cycle. It is not uncommon to not ovulate every now and again. When there is no egg, there is no corpus luteum, therefore no progesterone rise to let your body know it's time to finish one cycle and start another. Usually, your body will figure it out on it's own. Sometimes, it needs a kick with an rx.

The best place to start is with a dr appt to make sure it isn't due to more serious possibilities.

If you are not bleeding and especially if you are not bleeding and cramping, you need to see your doctor.  It could be any number of things - or nothing at all.  You should still get it checked out.  Also, I've heard of women going weeks beyond their missed periods and getting BFNs, only to learn they are pregnant.  You may want to have your doctor take a quaNtitative blood test, which will show even the smallest amount of HCG in your system.  Most times they just do a quaLitative, which means the HCG has to be above a certain level to just give you a yes/no answer.  This is not very helpful in cases like ectopic pregancy (don't worry - if that were the case I'm guessing you'd be having some severe cramping), where the HCG levels are much lower.  So I'd definitely ask for a quantitative.

Good luck!  I hope everything is OK!
