When I had my lap I felt like an elephant stomped on my stomach for about 4 days, MUCH worse than I was told to expect. But the worst part of the ordeal was that I got a gas bubble that traveled up to my right shoulder, and apparently they are VERY common. It stayed up there for over a year! At times I could barely rotate my shoulder. So that is a huge side effect! But, I attribute the lap to my successful pregnancy 2 cycles later. I believe, even though they couldn't find anything wrong, the gas opened up my walls and did magic inside, because 2 cycles later I was pregnant. Good luck!
The best advice I can give for recovering quickly after laparoscopy or lap/hysteroscopy is take it VERY easy the next day. Just lay on the couch or in bed and don't get up unless you have to. That's what I did and the day after my "rest" day I was running a couple of errands. The hysteroscopy isn't bad at all, but you'll be sore from the laparoscopy. Walking a little is best for the bloating, but I wouldn't do it right away unless the you just really feel up to it.
I had a little cramping and slight discomfort the day of the procedure but I was fine a few days later.
i don;t know what the lap is but i had the hysteroscopy during my pregnancy loss testing and it was fast, simple and painless. i had a little small amount of bleeding after but it only lasted like 2 hours and was only when you wiped. My period was delyaed after that but it might not have been from the hyst, since i had all 4 wisdom teeth out the very next day and was out under anesthesia as well as antibitoics and pain meds, so any one of those things could have delayed my period.
I was bloated and a little crampy and like Helen, it only took a few days to recover. The stomach bloating was the worst for me though.
I had no side-effects after the lap. It took me about 4 days to recover.
