if you don't trust your doctor, i'd recommend finding a different one....
Progestrone should be over 10 if you did ovulate ! progestrone is usually checked 21, 22, or 23 of your cd ! hugs and do sum of your own research just so you could be out in the clear!
see thats what i thaught and she tried to say it was normal... But i am going to a new doctor. He is a High risk OBGYN..... So lets hope someones gets it right. Thanks
It could be progesterone or thyroid. Or cycts even or a combination of these. I also had prog issues so I thought. Turns out I have PCOS. But I didn't trust my dr so I found a new one. Ended up with a fertility specialist which was better than the high risk. They actually did more monitoring than the high risk OB I saw. I wish you all the best!
A progesterone test is done to confirm ovulation. When a follicle releases its egg, it becomes what is called a corpus luteum and produces progesterone. A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy. Some say the test may be more accurate if done first thing in the morning after fasting.

thanks everyone alot you really helped me...
I see you got a lot of answers. I just wanted to add to cents (still would see another doctor), but - I've been on seven rounds of clomid, lots of blood draws for progestesterone and three wonderful sons as a result so far. I know that anything over 4 is technically considered ovulation. However, the medical community generally considers a level over 10 to be preferred and healthy. When medicated (Clomid, HSG, etc), they hope to see a level over 15. That being said, I've been pregnant and carried to term with an 11.4 (unsupplemented - meaning, they didn't give me progesterone pills or anything to help the levels, they said they were fine), and I've also been not pregnant with scores of 21. All that said, 4 would technically indicate some sort of egg was released and you are in a luteal phase, but your progesterone levels are week. I agree with others that progesterone supplementation may help if you are achieving pregnancy. I've found the best doctor for fertility help is the one you can talk to and feel like he or she has time for your questions and time to explain things to you and answer your questions. Hope you find that one soon!
Well thank you.. I went to a new doctor.and he said the number is low and they like to see a number over 10 on day 21. He said that 4.9 could be a sign of ovulation. But he is going to re-test this cycle. He said if it is low. Then he will start clomid and progestrone. He thinks that my level may have been low because of the HSG test. I had all the test done the same month as my HSG.... He said my FSH level of 4.5 is GREAT... He did some blood test for thryoid and other test too... I go back to see him on the 16th..
