side effects with IUI injectables?

Hey everyone - I'm STILL waiting for af (gettin a little nervous, but still getting BFN's and never thought I O'd to begin with - so it must just be my irregularity).  I'm REALLY hoping I get it this weekend, and can start my first round of injectables (gonadotropins) for my first IUI.

My question is - if you've read any of my other posts, you may know that I did 5 rounds of clomid last year, and it was a pretty miserable time for me.  I'm just wondering what the side effects are like on the injections?  I know everyone is different, because there's plenty of women on this forum that say they experience almost no side effects with clomid, which always astounds me.  PLEASE don't be afraid to tell me if you had a bad experience - I'd much rather be prepared for the possibility, than completely and utterly overwhelmed like I was with the clomid, because I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into.

I was on clomid for 5 cycles, 3 with iui and had TERRIBLE mood swings, hot flashes, etc... Last month was my first cycle on Follistim with iui and I had absolutely NO side effects. I even had EWCM and a much thicker lining than I had with clomid. Clomid really made me dry (tmi, sorry!) I mean, absolutely no ewcm or even watery cm... and my lining was always around 8mm when it came time to trigger. Last month, my lining was at 12.5 at trigger, with 8 mature follies ready to go ( and I usually made 2-3 on 100mg of clomid) and on the follistim I did 100iu for about a week and got that many mature follies. It didn't work though, and only 6 of the 8 eggs released so the other 2 are considered cysts so I just sat this cycle out with the meds. I still ovulate on my own, but my RE said I'll probably ovulate late b/c of the cysts, which is fine. We're not trying this month, just taking it easy and when AF shows again we'll do another round of follistim. I honestly like the injections, so much better than clomid! Sorry this was so long, and I hope AF shows soon so you can start yours and have your iui! Good luck!! :)

I  just finish a round of injectables.  I really didn't have too many side effects.  Just felt a little 'full' in the ovary area.  I am 11 days post IUI.  Nervous and hate to have to wait to see if it worked.  I have been crampy and my breast are terribly sensitive.  I don't know if this is from the Premetrium that they have me on, or signs of pregnancy.  I don't wanta get my hopes up.  Good luck to you.  I think if you have a good Dr. you will be fine.  Mine monitored me very closely and changed my dose of injection as needed.  I did very well with it.

I had no symptoms on Clomid (for 3 months) and then switched to Follistim injectibles this month and was very bloated and moody. I also produced more follicles (7 initially) and had thicker cervical lining - so maybe it was worth it?!?! I am in the 2WW now (5dp IUI) and will test on the 8th...keeping high hopes and fingers crossed!

Tks a lot for sharing your experience with us. I've being married for 7 years and always postponed to have babies and now that we are trying to conceive is seems to be very difficult. I will wait for the results of my husband's semen analysis. I hope everything is ok with him. I wish you good luck with te IUI and hope that soon you can post the good news! ;-)

I have no children, and this will be my first IUI.  I started with clomid after being diagnosed w/PCOS.  Before I was dx'd I wasn't even getting af, much less O'ing.  The clomid worked and made me O most of the months I took it, but I did not ever get pregnant.  Then I had a lap in Dec and found I have endometriosis too - that could've been the reason the clomid never worked (we hope).  I'm moving on to the injections and hoping that with the removal of my endometrial tissue/adhesions and the IUI, everything will work this time.  After my surgery they told me I had endometrial tissue connecting my uterus to my fallopian tube and ovary.  I asked if that could've pulled on the tube enough to divert the egg's path and prevent it from getting to it's destination, and she said "absolutely" - so we're hoping something like that was the case and that this will work.

This will be your first child or you had others?  Why the IUI did not work last year? What's the problem, no ovulation or something else? Tks a lot.

Hi - I did two rounds of Clomid with IUI last year (2007), got pregnant and had miscarriages both times. One miscarriage at 3 weeks and one at 9 weeks. I had terrible bloating around my waist and stomach from Clomid. Doctor thinks I will do much better at keeping the pregnancies on FSH injectibles. I just finished a round of Gonal F (FSH) injectibles, HCG trigger and IUI. I feel great, not one side effect so far. Will take HPT in a few days. Fingers and toes crossed! I hope you do better on the injectibles. Best of luck to you.

I had terrible mood swings with Clomid. I mean TERRIBLE.  To be honest, I did not notice any side effects with the IUI injectibles.  I only did one round before moving on to IVF injections. I hope you have a better experience than you had with Clomid.
