Anyone had a successful preg with thyroid antibodies?

Has anyone here had a successful pregnancy and know you are positive for thyroid antibodies?
I had a miscarriage and I'm positive for these antibodies and I'm scared this is the reason.

thanks

I also have had issues with fertility in results ive lost a ovary and tube and have had 3 falied ivf txs with no answers why . heartbreaking ! I became pregnant twice after ivf txs which was a surprise since i was told i could not conceive on my own . Both ended up in mc and no answers why . I was watched closely by my ob/gyn . About 7-8 wks the pregnancys would stop growing no hrt beats . A yr ago i was tested for thyroid antibodies and they came back very high . I told all my drs my sister has hashimotos but no one ever tested me for it even w ivf txs . Im so frustrated and upset some of these issues could been prevented w one test and w synthyroid and asprin daily . Ive been on meds now a yr and no luck w ttc all my drs recommend ivf ! I was blown away ,i placed a call to the repro endo who did my ivfs to see if he tested me for thyroid antibodies no not that im surprised they never called me back ,i guess i know the answer to that question . I was refered to another repro endo specialist and my apt is in 2 wks . I have all normal labs and have for 4 months and still no pregnancy . I was tested to see if im ovulating which showed i was . Im confused and dont know where to turn at this point . I do not believe i need ivf txs if i can concieve on my own . any suggestions would help me out .Thanks

I took fertility drugs and synthroid.  There is no problem.  The only thing is that synthroid needs to be taken on an empty stomach and not with your prenatal vitamin.  Now, I take my estrace, synthroid, and baby aspirin at 6 AM and then my estrace, prenatal vitamin, and progesterone at 6PM.  They say it is better to take your synthroid in the AM so it can memic your normal thyroid hormones.

I am hypothyroid also.  I didn't know about the hypothyroid and retardation.  I knew that my low thyroid can make it very difficult to conceive, but didn't realize the affects.  I start repronex in two weeks - does anyone know if fertility drugs have an affect on the thyroid medication?  My RE just checked my thyroid last week - and it is good - but should I be worried since I will be taking fertility drugs on top of it?

Tesha, I am so sorry for your loss's.  I too am hypothyroid but I am not sure if the thyroid antibodies caused it.  I also heard that sometimes your synthroid doses need to be changed during pregnancy.  I am on my TWW but if beta is BFP I am definitely going to have the thyroid checked.

i tested for thyroid ab about 4 or 5 years ago. i was diagnosed with hypothyroid also in 2005 i was
pregnant with my first child and had my first miscarriage. first doctors didnt know what the cause
was. it wasnt until my second pregnancy when doctors discovered that my thyroids was the cause. also my cervix dialated and the baby head dropped and contractions was very strong. so i had 2 difficult pregnancies,2 miscarriages and 2 heart breaks. has anyone faced any of these problems. feel free to email me at ***@****

i just tested positive for thyroid ab's too.  my results were only slightly high and they will test again before i start any treatment.  if you take your thyroid prescription as directed you should be fine in pregnancy.  A scientific paper was published in 2006 which compared people pregnant who had thyroid antibodies who either took thyroxine or did not.  Those who took thyroxine had much better outcomes and fewer miscarriages than those who did not.  Also my RE just told me that people who are hypothyroid and don't takes their meds have a high incidience of mental retardation in their offspring so it is very important to take your medication.

Thanks of the info. I have read about selenium before and have some at home but not taken it yet.
I just wondered if it is actually possible to have a succesfull pregnancy when positive for these antibodies. I'm guessing it is and not everyone will know they even have these Abs.
I will never know the reason for my miscarriage and my doc says I would need to have 3 miscarriages before they would start looking for a reason, even though they know I am hypothyroid.
Just before my miscarriage my doctor told me to reduce my synthyroid from 150mcg to 100 mcg as I was borderline hyperthyroid, I have since learnt that requirment for thyroid hormone increases each trimester of pregnancy so perhaps the miscarriage was caused because my thryoid was low(I was hypo with a TSH of 4.6 after the m'carriage).
Next time I'm pregnant I'm going to insist my doctor test my thyroid levels more frequently.

Funny you wondered if sore throat and pregnancy were related.  I really doubt it, but I noticed that I had the worst sore throat with my last pregnancy (i misscarried though).  Coincidence?  Probably just flu season,  I was really congested and coughing a lot.

Sore throat is weird though....

I way asking the poster if she was referring to anticardiolipid antibodies?   I just got a "high" result and I'm being sent to specialist and advised to take a daily baby aspirin

Casablancas...

Also, if you have thyroid problems your TSH needs to be between .04 and 1.0.  Anything over or under decreases your chances of having a healthy pregnancy.  Maybe you already know this...but just in case. :)

There's evidence that taking a daily dose of Selenium lowers those antibodies.  I assume you have Hashimoto's?

I have been taking 200mcg of Selenium daily.  You can find it at any pharmacy or vitamin store for about $7.

The following 2 links contain information on Selenium's effect with patients who have elevated antibodies and fertility problems:

Best wishes!

Are you talking about anticardiolipid antibodies?

I am waiting for my results to come through for that?
I had a lot of sore throat's through my last pg, which also resulted in miscarridge. I am not sure what the reason was for them/c, just that everything looked good at 8 wks and then at 11 wks baby had passed at 9+ wks?

Do sore throats have anything to do with that? how can they treat you if you are possitive?
