Headaches could possibly be related to the neurotransmitter, serotonin. There is a rebound effect after it is released (causing blood vessels to constict) of these vessels then dilating. End result is a throbbing headache. Another reason may be related to myofascial pain syndrome and trigger points. One other reason may be related to reactive hypoglycemia and could possibly be relieved by changing your diet.
If this is a new symptom for you, discuss this with your doctor as you would with any new or worsening symptom. If your flares are becoming more frequent, it may be time to look into contributing or perpetuating factors to see if a life style change (or something else) could be beneficial. There are many things that could be involved here -- poor sleep, stress, repetitive motion, diet, ---there are so many, too numerous to mention. It may require that you think through all you do in a day. Do you get adequate sleep with the amitriptylene? If not, your doc may need to adjust it. I just have to say that no matter what we do or don't do, we are still likely to have an occaisional flare. That is the frustrating part.
So does this mean the fibro is getting worse? It just seems like the flares are coming more frequenly than they used to, i'm only on amitryptalene for the fibro should i try something else?
Thank you so much!
Many CFS patients (myself included) often have severe headaches. My headaches aren't as frequent as they used to be.. as I'm on treatment that is restoring my health. But if I do have a headache, it is normally around my period and I have to either get a massage... see my chiropractor or take Relpex.
