Need a new doc!

I apologize in advance for my ignorance of social media etiquette, but I have no where else to turn and it was suggested I try to reach out.  I was recently diagnosed with FM in April, 2012, and was seeing a young doctor that I trusted to take care of me.  Unfortunately, after 3 months and 10 visits he has yet to control my pain.  He has said I have exhausted his treatment list for pain.  When I asked to seek a second opinion, he said he would not see me if I consulted with another doctor.  I'm afraid of being a research project for another doctor, so I am asking anyone with FM to send me some names of doctors on Oahu, Hawaii that are willing to do some of the more aggressive treatments for FM pain.  Thank you in advance for any information.

Hey lamina777.

You have lived a very diversified life from what you're describing,
however, the most interesting aspect of your life, is that you have chosen a career that you just love, despite all the challenges!
It would be wonderful, if you don't have to pursue alternate career options
because of your FMS. So I'll do my best to give you helpful suggestions that will hopefully make a difference.

Do not concern yourself  too much with etiquette here.
As long as we're all courteous to each other and respectful,
it works rather well for all.
There's an option to communicate privately, if one chooses
to do so for personal reasons-same as real time real life situations.
When you establish rapport with a member who you are comfortable with
and enjoy exchanging posts, you may consider also the private message
possibility, by going to the profile box and clicking on "send message".
This works well when you want to disclose sensitive personal information,
or when you feel like chatting- something that would not be of interest
or value to other members perhaps.
You may also invite a member to become a friend by clicking the "add a friend" option ( which automatically sends the friendship invitation).
Enough of this. I catch myself sounding like a teacher again. lol!

Without intending to give you false hope, I feel that your FMS can be reversed- if not totally, at least a large part of it.
The key areas to  look into - to my opinion - are:
1. Serious stress reduction.
2. Comprehensive nutritional/metabolic protocol for diabetes and FMS
3. Energetic rebalancing/clearing past trauma.

I'm very familiar with the above fields and for further details,
I'll send you a message.
Meanwhile it's great that you're willing to explore the references I gave you earlier.
By the way, your grammar is as good as your spelling- which is flawless!
Take care and have a good night!
Niko

Tx again Niko :)  I will review the 02/03 posts for helpful information.  From your profile it appears that you are very involved with this informative format.  Since I am just starting to explore this world I'm not sure how much to share and what others may expect from me?  With that said:

A decade ago I was in law enforcement overseas, a completely different career choice from what I have done most of my life.  I had a neck injury which resulted in a cervical fusion of C4-C7.  Today I have no pain from that injury, however the right arm to hand numbness is still present.  I would have to say that my I cannot recall any injury that lead up to the present FMS pain.  I have a very stressful, emotionally draining, physically demanding and always challenging job that allows me to care for sick, wounded and dying animals.  I love this job however, the FMS has caused me to consider what other careers I might pursue in the event that I just cannot perform as expected.

I was diagnosed diabetic just about 10 years ago as well.  Type II.  I am a petite person, not overweight, eat when I'm hungry and use to be pretty active until the FMS kicked in.  My diabetes is directly related to my stress level.  It's the only facet of my life that is poorly managed!!  As much as I thought going into the veterinary field would be puppies and kittens everyday, I have made it a 20 year commitment with all my heart.

I was diagnosed with FMS by a Rheum. doc, and that was after being seen by several specialists, 1 MRI, 1 CAT Scan, a trip to a Cardio surgeon for a "blurr" in my aorta, and me firing my original GP that told me to "suck it up"!!

Oh Niko, thanks for listening.  I will review the references and hope to hear from you again.  I too have some spiritual links, mostly to friends and family, but have been know to know things about others as well.  Take care, Lamina777

ps.  please excuse my grammatical and spelling errors, I had a difficult English teacher as a child ;)

Hey Lamina777.

It seems that you possess certain qualities, that will help you
with your quest for wellness health improvement.
(I get a good feeling so far with you, I can read between lines, I'm very intuitive
and psychic at times - which hasn't taken away from my intellectual skills
so far, so don't be concerned that I might be "off the wall" or in "Lalaland" lol!)

Please go back to April 3, 2012 I believe, here in the fibro community.
The thread is titled "Iwill do this" and you will find many useful
holistic suggestions to deal with fibromyalgia.

As far as my background and my personal situation go, for now just click
on my profile. Another time I will expand on that in detail.

Could you tell me what happened in your life about 8-10 years ago?
Any significant events, changes, accidents?
You're welcome to add anything at all that may have anything to do with your health status today. Diet, fitness levels, supplements, sleep patterns,
emotional, physical symptoms etc.

By the way, how were you diagnosed and was it by a Rheumatologist?

You may post here again or message me directly.
Gotta go to work now!

Take care and have a good day!
Niko

Tx Niko, I'm starting to understand that this is going to be a very personal treatment.  If I could inquire about your situation.  Do you have FMS?  How long?  You're the first person I've talked to outside my family and medical circle.  Sometimes I feel like a cry baby, and I should just get over it, and then the pain is unbearable and I can't stand to say anything.  What's it like for you?  Thank you for sharing your thoughts, it sounds like you know what I'm going through.  Goodnight for now, I look forward to hearing from you again.  I am interested in hearing about alternative options I can do on my own.   Lamina777

Hi Lamina777.
Welcome to the forum.

There's no need to apologize. It is perfectly fine!
You have made the first big step toward getting some helpful suggestions
and support from fellow members.
It seems that your young Doctor's ego got in the way!
Unfortunately, I cannot help you with any Doctor's names in Oahu who can offer aggressive treatments for FMS.
FMS is a very peculiar syndrome of symptoms- not a specific disease per se- that presents challenges for patients and doctors alike- as there's NO cure and no standard treatment. The degree of effectiveness of commonly prescribed meds for FMS varies greatly, and often years go by without
zeroing in the right medication for many sufferers.
There's no magic bullet and it would be not only unreasonable, but also very unfair to expect doctors to offer an aggressive treatment, without considering the short-medium and long term side effects, as well as the fact that the meds don't carry any guarantee that they will work!

However, I can offer you a number of things you can do on your own,
for better pain & FMS management, if you are interested.
Let me know. Please post again. You may also pm me directly
Wishing you well.
Niko
