Your Best Brain Fog Memories

A just for fun thread ! What are some of your best brain fog memories ? I guess mine would be talking to someone on the phone and then, in the middle of your conversation with this person, you forget what you were talking about. Let's see... I also will put things in the wrong place. For instance, I put the cheese cupboard and put the cheese grater in the refrigerator. I think I've done that more than once, but I don't remember !  ; ^ )

i got a real good one. i was doing laundry the other day. we live in an apartment complex. the laundryroom is across the hall. i put too many quarters in one dryer and not enough in the other. so i figured i would just put the laundry from the one into the other if it wasnt completely dry. well i woke in the middle of the night dreaming that i forgot to get the laundry out of the dryer with the extra time on it. i didnt bother putting my glasses on, just ran like crazy to the laundry room.  sure enough there was laundry sitting in the dryer.  i grabbed it up and took it to the apartment. in the morning i took my kiddo to school and decided to fold the laundry later. on the way to school my husband called and said that someone knocked on the door and said that i STOLE THEIR LAUNDRY! oh my gosh!! i couldnt remember for the life of me getting that laundry out and folding it. how crazy is that?!

Too many to count. A couple that I recall vividly are when driving to therapy (and sometimes home from therapy--a road I had traveled often) I would get a little down the first few turns then be absolutely 'lost'. I would be shaking and paniced (as it took a while to get there and my therapist was not real flexible with tardiness). Thankfully I had learned to carry a cell phone in my purse (something I never had to do before) and was able to reach my husband and describe landmarks that I was seeing to navigate me).

Another time, I removed a frozen packet of gravy to have with a big holiday brunch I had planned from our freezer in the utility room. When I went to make the gravy, I could not find it anywhere--retracing my steps over and over again, having family eyeball everywhere. I distinctly remembered the size, holding it in my hand, etc. I found it a week or two later sitting on top of my clothes dryer (also in the utility room where I had searched).

My biggest things are just abruptly stopping conversation (that I might even had initiated) with a blank stare as I had no recall at all as to what I was saying, and losing things without ever leaving the area that I was using them. I have gotten to the point that I do not trust myself to drive outside of our small town alone. I also lector at our church and it scares me to think some day I may be standing at the lecturn, proclaiming the Word and forgetting what I am doing. This hasn't happened yet, but one never knows when/how it strikes.

Well i had my WORST brain fog memory about 3 wks ago. Firstly, my next to worst one was when i went shopping and came out and could not find my car. Now I know this happens to everyone at certain stages, but after 15 minutes of walking up and down the "small" parking lot at the shopping center, I had to call my husband at home to come down to the supermarket and help me find my car. But if you think that was a worry, listen to this.  I was at my daughters house, and someone called me on my cell phone (in Australia we call it a mobile phone).  Anyway, the woman asked me my address, AND.....I had NO idea where I lived.  I actually had to tell the woman, sorry, but I dont know where I live, hold the line and I will ask my daughter. I went into the next room and asked my daughter what is my address.  She looked at me in disbelief, and I told her I have a total complete blank, and I have no idea where I live. She told me my address, then I got back on the phone and told the lady. Talk about embarrassment!  However, the worse part was that is was VERY scary. That was one of the questions my Rheumatologist asks me when he examined me, if i was losing my memory........you can guess my answer...haha

Last year I forgot my sister's birthday.  I know that happens to people sometimes, but her birthday is the SAME DAY as mine!

Today was a really rough morning, and I had to have my class covered for the beginning of the day. The kids were still at morning Mass when I arrived.  I was more than a little surprised to see "Happy Birthday" banners around the room and a couple of gift bags.  In my fogged state, I thought perhaps I'd forgotten my OWN birthday!  Turned out, it had been a typo in the weekly parent memo, and what should have been a 19 came out as a 10.  However, it was the greatest "unbirthday" ever.  I'd been thinking about posting a thread about how to battle the despair that comes with my flare-ups, but that little typo gave me the answers I needed.  One of the kids gave me a little book from the Dollar Store entitled "Happy Birthday."  It was Bible passages and inspirational quotes.  I'm going to head to the store myself and buy them out, because the lift that book gave me is definitely something I want to pass on to others.

It just goes to show that, like stress makes us feel worse, joy and laughter is the best medicine.

Heres one: I was running bath water, but the bath didn't seem like it was filling up with water. I let the water run long enough that there was no hot water anymore. AND the bath still wasn't filling! I was so confused, then I realized: I HADN'T PLUGGED THE BATH TUB! lol I cracked up for about five minutes, then waited for the water to warm up.

You all are cracking me up!

I just remembered the time I wrote a Drs. appt. on the calendar on a Thursday as "thrs.". When the day came I didn't know what Dr. or what time my appt. was because all that was written on that day was "thrs." the day it was.  I had to call all the Drs. I was seeing at the time to see who I had an appt. with.

I have MANY brain fog moments...one is putting the MILK back in the pantry and the CEREAL in the fridge !! One of my husbands "favorites" (being highly sarcastic) is not signing the checks or forgetting to put the check in the envelope when I pay the bills...

My main complaint about brain fog is being SO FORGETFUL!!! I have to ask myself...over and over...everyday..."Did I do that?" or "Did I do this already?" My husband will ask me If I did a certain something...I can't remember If I did it or not!!!

It is good to know I'm not alone...and I wish all of you the best in fighting this and hopefully today will be a better day for you!!  ;)

I'm fortunate to have several dear friends with fibromyalgia.  One day my one friend and I were at lunch and having such a nice "catch up" conversation.

The conversation sounded like this......"What was I saying?" ......I don't know, what were you saying?  Oh anyway.  Did I tell you about the time we went on vacation?  I think you did. UM, Oh, look at that, (out the window) whoa, what was that about.  Well, anyway, what were we talking about?  I dunno, do you remember? Nope, do you LOL and we did this all through lunch, laughed our butts off, and got some valid conversation in .

Neither of us could hold a thought, we both knew what it was, we both agreed lunch was good and we were glad to see each other.

My son and I were watching a DVD of the first Harry Potter movie a few weeks ago. I said, "You know, it would have been nice to see this movie and all its special effects in a theater," and my son turned to me and said, "Dad, we did. That's when we took Cameron and Michael (two of my son's friends). Remember? We all had the baggy cargo pants and sneaked in about $10.00 worth of candy."  I do remember them sneaking candy into the theater, but I still don't remember what the movie was.

I finally went to third, and found out - thankgoodness- that I had guessed correctly. another time I couldn't remember how to spell the word "not" (It's spelled N-O-T, in case i'm not the only one who forgot how to spell it .... ;) my friends get a kick out of me sometimes .... I could understand why. lol

What a wonderful thread!  I have found that laughing at my symptoms takes away their power to discourage me.

I teach middle school, and I constantly provide my students opportunities to laugh.  They know that, if they don't write something down, they might as well not tell me.  For a while I was famous for insisting I'd never been given information about upcoming events, and then I'd find post-its in my OWN handwriting.  They have gotten very good at answering me when I say, "What was I going to tell you?"  It's a great exercise for them in creative thinking, and they often come up with the right answer!

I've done all the things you all have listed and more.  Here are my top two favorites...

I couldn't find the telephone.  I looked EVERYWHERE.  Finally, I gave up.  That evening, when I started dinner, I finally found it--in the refrigerator.

This one was costly, but it was still hilarious.  Driving home from work, I took my exit off the Interstate, only to realize I was in the lane to turn left instead of right.  I was so busy laughing at myself for not knowing how to get home that I didn't bother to look in the rearview mirror before backing up.  I did about $5000 damage to the car behind me on the ramp, and explaining my actions to the police officer was not my proudest moment.  I could have seen it as a reason to live in fear of driving, but instead it made me realize I just need to try a little harder than most to pay attention, and sharing the story has brought laughter to MANY people--though probably not the lady I hit!

Life is what you make it!

I had no idea this forum was available! I'm happy to know that my "brain fog" is a normal symptom of fibro. I've had it for ten years now. It really helps to talk to someone who has it. No one else seems to understand.

Keep them coming !

I have another one. I was walking to the office and I was so brain-fogged that I accidentally walked right into a parked vehicle in the employee parking lot !  I had a HUGE bruise on my thigh and it didn't go away until 6 months later. At the time I still didn't have a diagnosis... but suspected CFS but I just couldn't believe how brain-fogged I was.

ok...I finally remembered a good one...most embarrassing tho.
I was running late for work...got dress and went as fast as I could....I did not feel well, nothing new, but all around not a good day. So I am on my way to work and my legs were really bothering me....I got to my desk, and had a lot to do, so right to work....after several hours, close to break time an associate came up and asked if I was alright...I said no my legs are really bothering me today I don't know what it is , with that I swung my legs out from under the desk and looked down at them.....well I guess  one open toe wedge and one flat will do it......one navy ...one taupe!
Beat that! lol

I just pulled a good one this morning and gave my co-workers one more thing to laugh at me about.  I walked down the hall into a friend's office and said, "Good Morning...great to see you today".  She looked at me really strange and told me that she had just been in my office 30 minutes earlier to say Hi and ask how my morning was going.  We talked about last night's TV too.  Guess she knew how it was going...VERY FOGGY!

Don't feel bad.  About a month ago I bought a couple of boxes of frozen waffles.  Well, I told my son I had bought some and he might have these for breakfast.  The next day I asked if he had waffles for breakfast and he said, "he never could find them"  I asked if he looked in the deep freeze and the refridgerator freezer, "yea", he says.  Well, I looked and looked, wondering where in the world did they go to?  Not to long after I was cleaning out the pantry throwing away old chips, etc,  There low and behold are the waffles !  Yuck !  It's easy to do tho' as you get busy trying to feed everyone and put away groceries at the same time.  But I have spells where I have a hard time talking, as in trying to figure out how to phrase my sentences.  I wonder about myself at times !

One time I was going out to a friends house where I'd never been, so printed directions and left them by my purse so I'd remember. I left and knew I was forgetting something, so came back to look around and see if anything struck me. I saw the movies she'd lent me and grabbed them, leaving again. As I was leaving, I knew I'd forgotten something else, came back, but couldn't figure out what it was, so left again. I got 5 minutes away at least before I realized I'd forgotten the directions... twice.

A funny one, I'm in college, and one time I did my homework twice, forgetting I'd already done it!
