i found that oxycodone works better than hydrocodone and they're both opiates, and both addictive just to let you know, but they do ease the pain when taken with an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen800mg) and a muscle relaxer of some sort, it used to be my bed-time cocktail that seemed to do the trick. take away the muscle-relaxer and i could handle day-time tasks! i just started amitriptyline 4 weeks ago and i'm still waiting to feel any benefit from them besides a sleeping pill with side effects! i was switched from oxycodone to hydrocodone about 3 weeks ago and they barely even touch the pain, plus the withdrawals from one to the other, while adjusting to another medication, was horrible!! i was extremely irritable to say the very least!

all in all opiates can ease the pain greatly, just prepare yourself for a consequence of addiction. not everybody gets addicted either, which is also something to think about. as long as you are aware of this, you have a better chance of not getting addicted.

Good Luck!

I take vicodin 5/500 and I also have the lidoderm patches.  Not taking Lyria or Cymbalta anymore as they didn't help and the cognitive problems just increased.  Waiting to see another rheumatologist to see what she has to offer on March 4th.

I use the 25 mcg Duragesic patch, changed every 72 hours.  I developed a tolerance to them very quickly, so I keep 100 mcg patches on hand as well.  I also use Vicoden 10/635 for break through pain. I am extremely opiate tolerant, which is of course a huge pain in the butt. I take Lyrica twice daily, but that is almost gone, and I cannot afford the 131.00 cost right now.

I have fentanal patches which is a opiod i change it every 72 hrs it realease some each hour i am on 100 they give these too terminal cancer patients norm or when they cant control the pain by any other means, they are not popular in some countrys as people have died of an overdose by mistake due to if they get over heated by a bath hot water bottle sun it can burn the skin and heat the patch to relaease the dose all at once.

they dont seem too really control the pain but i am on such a high dose i cant be bothered to go through withdrawel and try something else as i've heard its a hard to withdraw fro. fentanal patches are ment to be stronger and less addtive though then morphine.

i took them along side lyrica and requip and clonazapam and diazapam but they dont mix well with some drugs make you tired.

I was taking both Lyrica and Ultram.  I found that should I miss a dose of the Lyrica the pain was intensified and I didn't like the cognitive difficulty that it caused.  I recently discontinued the Ultram after being on it for 3 yrs.  Honestly, I am still achy and in pain, but I now see that the Ultram did little to begin with.  I never had the dosage increased during the time I was taking it.

Take care.

Hi;
   Yes I do take opiates, I take Norco and then I am on Ultram ER as well. It doesn't take away the pain but it does ease the pain.

gentle hugs
