medications are not helping

I am a 31 year old female. I have a family history of migraines, MS and Parkinson’s. I was diagnosed in January with fibromyalgia by a Rheumatologist. I have tried Prozac, Nortriptelyne , Inderal, Flexeril, Midrin, Naltrexone, Tylenol, Advil and Naxopren Sodium. I've also tried yoga, diet changes, naturopathy, chiropractic, etc. I am not getting any pain relief. I suffer with severe migraines to the point of vomiting. I have daily tension headaches, muscle and joint pain in my whole body, occasional numbness and tingling in my extremities, sensations of cold liquid in my veins, my blood veins in my hands and arms enlarge to the point where it is painful and I have to elevate my hands to reduce the pressure. I am always getting sick with every bug that’s going around. I have insomnia. All my lab work has come back within normal ranges including Rheumatoid  factor, CBC and thyroid. MRI of my SI joints shows no arthritis. I’m having a head CT on Tuesday. What else can I do?

Thank you for your replies. I've been having terrible headaches since Thursday, worse than my regular daily headaches. I went to the urgent care on Saturday and got a shot of morphine and tramadol. Even that did not take away the pain, just reduced it from a 10 to a 6. I'm waiting on the results from my CT. Thanks for the advice and support.

Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly.  First and foremost, you do need to get ample sleep.  Studies have shown that most with FMS do not reach the REM portion of sleep, which is when the body restores itself.  Poor sleep enhances the symptoms of FMS greatly.

PlateletGal has given you some good information.  I wish we had easy answers as to how to get healthy...there is no magic pill to make it disappear.  It's important to take care of our immune systems as best we can because we do tend to get sick more frequently and stay ill longer.

I am taking Tramadol for pain (associated with RSD) and can't sleep without medication.  I have the RLS and PLMD that often tags along with FMS.

I'm glad to hear that you are getting all of the testing done.  At least it will rule out anything else that could be causing like symptoms.  We are all seeking methods of treatment and awaiting a cure.  I do hope you feel better soon.

Take care.

Hi ! I tend to ignore how many rhuematologists are treating fibro and CFS. For pete's sake... most of these physicians I have found don't know too much about our conditions !

I've listed a link to treatments for both fibro and CFS... recommended not by the pharamceutical companies, but by the experts. And some of these experts successfully treated their own fibro or CFS symptoms. You might want to check out this link to our health pages and click on treatments.

In addition, Prof. Garth Nicolson from The Institute of Molecular Medicine will be here joining us in MedHelp to answer questions about the role of infections in autoimmune, degenerative, CFS, fibro and other diseases or "syndromes".  We will keep you posted, but if you have questions... consider marking your calendar for May 20th -- 12:00 - 1:00 PM (Pacific Time).

Best,
