Out of control GERD or something else?

Ok so here's whats been going on.. it may sound long and complicated and I guess it is...
I'm 25, was otherwise healthy up until a few months ago.. pain and symptoms began in February.
Since then I've been having severe stabbing pain in my chest and shooting pain up my throat, which later moved to stabbing pain between my shoulder blades, into  my shoulders, and then to a burning and stabbing pain in my stomach. I also often get a burning pain in my ribs as well. It is much worse when I lay down, I can not lay on my back at all and most nights I have to sleep sitting up, if I sleep at all that is, since many nights the pain keeps me up all night. I feel like my whole upper body is under attack. I am occasionally nauseated but that is not that often. I can be fine for a week or two and then another attack comes and I am suffering through that for another few weeks again. I have tried all acid reflux meds...prevacid, zantac, nexium, and now I have been on Parrett for months. I was recently hospitalized for a week because of the severity of my pain... they did an endoscopy, cat scan, barium swallow, ultra sound and blood tests and nothing showed and the doctors are lost.. other then Gerd(which I was dianoised with years ago) they have no idea and with my meds and eatting properly my gerd should be well under control. I am still waiting on test results from a hydro-scan to see if it may be my gallbladder but they said it was unlikely because it should have showed in my ultrasound. I am completely physically and emotionally wiped. Does anyone else have these symptoms or can any of you help?

I’m going through the same problem, it’s bothering me as soon as I wake up, to the smallest meal, and sometimes it comes out of nowhere and it’s just uncomfortable. I went from scared to just now I’m depressed and annoyed, im 25 and very fit. I been through academy’s, bodybuilding, and all of a sudden im having stomach issues, it went from a stomach virus to now I just can’t eat anything without diarrhea, went from that to know GERD. Bad gerd, I’ll be sitting down and it’ll just travel everywhere! I then got meds for it and everything but still it just travels and I get nauseous, and all I do is burp none  stop. Now covid has hit the world doctors don’t want to see nobody, they always rule things as covid, which I’ve tested negative twice already. It’s sad for people who are going through things, and need help but can’t because hospitals and clinic are packed all the time. But I hope everywhere stays safe, and be blessed. Let me know what y’all think. Also my glands, started swelling, 2 weeks after I had gerd, I think it’s anxiety or stress glands. But it could be thyroid.

Hi......
Good point........i've been taking "synthroid 100" for the last 7 years, but once a year I
have it tested and it's always normal.......The acid reflux started around the same year I started the thyroid medication and had to have my gallbladder removed also.....

"Hi ........
How can acid reflux be caused from another disease and how can reflux be a symptom of thyroid problems?"

OK, there is a lot you need to know.

Well, for starters the problem with our health system is we treat symptoms since its easier to treat than finding and treating the cause. But if we don't find the cause, the problem will not go away.

Reflux itself really is not a disease, its a bad symptom of causes not found yet. And if you cant find the hidden cause, hopefully some PPI will work. When PPI's do work, you know the level of acid was to high, but still, why is the acid high?

You can get reflux from not enough acid if the stomach goes 'buzerk' from not being able to digest food. Many other factors and diseases can slow down the digestive tract, thus causing reflux. A malfunctioning intestine, pancreas, liver, gall bladder can cause bile reflux and that could cause acid reflux from higher levels of stomach acid. There is also a major nerve called the Vargas (spelled wrong) that controls the upper part of the stomach. It can get pinched in the spinal column. Celiac disease can cause reflux. Bacterial overgrowth, Candida in the digestive system, even H-Pylori. I'm sure there are reasons- but I am not a doctor.

I know a lot about slow thyroid since I have the autoimmune disease type, Hoshimotos. Hoshi can slow down any or all organs (digestive tract organs) and interfere severely with muscle recovery and efficiency.  This is why it slows the heart - its a muscle. The Lower Esophageal Sphincter and Upper E S are also muscles wraping the esophagus. Each individual has different Hoshi symtyms You can go on for years to body part specialist when thyroid can be causing all of the problems!  And don't forget Graves disease which can set every organ into hyper mode (speed up), but I dont know as much about it. It is my guess that about 95% of thyroid patients are easily treated with the standard hormone meds, the other 5% (includes me) only get better after trails of med types, brands, and specific free T3 levels.

My reflux was really bad - I swear my LES was stuck open. Now my reflux is gone, it was NOT cured by a gastroenteritis, all of the brands of PPI's he shoveled down my throat made me worse every day. I could hardly eat, PPI's were stopping digestion. But that whole ordeal was a lesson for life, I gave up junk food, acidic food, all caffeine - all that adds to reflux. But, the main reason my reflux is better (and a long list of other things) is from changing thyroid meds!

Live and learn I guess, just wish it was easier.

Once you've been through the whole deal, its time to make sure your severe reflux is not a side affect from other meds or being caused from another disease. I say this since my reflux was partially a symptom of thyroid probs for me- the gastro docs did not know this.
