after gallbladder surgery

I am to have my gallbladder removed in a couple days. I have several severe attacks and have been watching closely what I eat. What kind of syptoms can I expect after removal? I am a 56 year old male 6',  226lbs.  I used to be able to eat anything without issues.

I had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago. It took me a week to have a b.m I started drinking miralax once daily for 5 days after those 5 days I finally broke down and took milk of magnesium and it worked! My surgeon said they really aren't concerned until a week has passed without a b.m. hope you are feeling better. Day 3 and 4 post surgery was the worst for me.

Thank you for your reply. surgery went well last Friday but due to adhesions from previous attacks the Dr has a drain in place for just a few days hopefully.  As far as watery diarrhea, I did not have any of that but actually the opposite. Getting a little nervious because of no bowel  movement as of today,

Hi, there is about a 5% incidence of watery diarrhea immediately following removal of the gallbladder that is thought to result from bile salt irritation in an empty GI tract. It usually responds well to resins that bind these bile salts (cholestyramine) so they can't irritate the intestine. Most commonly the intestine adapts such that these agents can be weaned off over several weeks. Regards.
