5 days after salmonella poisoning, Still Nauseous, can't keep food down

Hello. I got food poisoning, and threw up 6 times last Friday and went to the hospital to get rehydrated, along with pain and nausea medicine.. I haven't thrown up since, but for the past 4 days, I have been feeling nauseous if I get out of bed. And I'm eating lightly (oatmeal, rice, crackers, steamed vegetables) and when I eat I feel the pain come back. I'm wondering, am I feeling nauseous because of lack of nutrition? Am I past the throwing up phase at this point? Thank you , and happy holidays.

Hi, your presenting symptoms could be due to the infection. It could also be due to the antibiotic therapy. The main side effect of this medication is diarrhea and nausea, this is because this medicine tends to kill the normally residing flora in the gut like lactobacillus acidophilus (good bacteria) that helps with digestion. For this you need to take probiotics to replace this bacteria. You can get some good organic yogurt and take it with your meals. And ensure to complete your antibiotic course. Regards.

Thanks! perfect answer and very informative. It was most likely the antibiotic causing the intense nausea and discomfort. I finished the course two days ago. And have been feeling 90% better, almost back to normal for the past week.. Today I felt hot as if I had a fever, but my temperature was fine. I got very light headed, which was weird. It was flu-like symptoms, but it's been way too long for me to continue feeling it, I think... For the most part I am doing a lot better, but I've never experienced this when I get the usual stomach flu. Symptoms are gone within days…. Salmonella poisoning was the main suspect during my hospital visit. Im assuming that the fact that these weird symptoms are still taking place, must support the suspicion that I did get salmonella poisoning? or these symptoms could still be that of the antibiotic.
