Advanced Barrett's Esophagus

What is the chance of Barrett's Esophagus evolving into cancer? My throat has become raw and it is becoming increasingly hard to swallow.

Thank you very much for your input. I am going to start back on the nexium as soon as I get another script from the doc. The acid doesn't bother me too much since I changed my diet but it surly won't hurt to add it to the other pain meds I have to take. I just pray that I don't get the big C. My mom went that way and I feel for anyone that has it. Again I thank you .

My husband has Barrett's.  He takes Nexium every day to control the acid.  He has a lot of pain when he eats.  He has to be really careful.

You can find some of the statistics you want here: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_2X_What_are_the_risk_factors_for_esophagus_cancer_12.asp

However, if you are not actively trying to tamp down the on-going problem, your risk may increase.
