Over the past two or three days I have had a slight discomfort in my right groin/side. I went to the doctor today, and after blood and urine came back normal, she said that I still might have appendicitis and said I might want to get a CT, though I don't show normal symptoms other than pain in my RLQ. The pain isn't constant and it isn't severe and hasn't really gotten any worse. I had similar pain in June, and after several tests including a CT scan, the doctor that time said my appendix was fine and said I had swollen lymph nodes. The pain subsided after about a week after that time. I haven't had a CT scan this time as I am afraid of it showing nothing and me getting so much radiation for nothing (my doctor told my that if it gets worse, go to the ER). I was wondering if there are any other tests that can be done for me to get a good diagnosis besides CT. I really don't want more radiation (already with two other scans this year).
I don't have a fever, don't really have very much rebound tenderness, don't have constipation, nausea, etc - basically just a little discomfort in my side/pelvis. When I move around or stretch it doesn't get worse (actually it seems to get worse when I am sitting with my knees bent). I should say that I sprained my right knee and have been walking with a limp for the past five or six days so I am wondering if these pains are related.
Any ideas?
I am 22, male overweight and am in law school. I have IBS, and am probably a little stressed (law school - first semester). Any help would be much appreciated.
