I am a bit concerned about later (post op)complications due to haveing ones gallbladder removed. I am reading of complications with bile ducts after haveing ones gallbladder removed. Is there a chance I will experience bile duct issues even after my gallbladder is removed? The gastrointerologist mentioned that within hours afetr the gallbladder surgery he may have to go in and put a stint in my bile duct if I start experiencing elevated liver enzymes. This is such a mess!
Thanks for the responce. How do you know so much? Do you know if my issues have lead to the pain I have been suffering all over my body as if I have the flu 24/7? Since haveing this problem I have felt unbarable pain throughout my body thus the Fentenol patch. My orthopedist thought it was possibly nerve damage from the spinalstenosis and myopathy I had before having surgery on my neck (five level fusion) and due to breaking my back at T 11 & 12 (thrown from a horse) as well as L 5 compression causing nerve damage. I would be extremely happy to know that I will be able to come off of the drugs when my gallbladder is removed. It would be a blessing if I knew that the true sourse of my pain is a low grade infection caused from gallbladder disease. The last time I has a specterotomy I did end up in ICU with a slight case of pancreatitis (sp) unbelievably painfull! I do not have a spleen due to ITP in 1993 so I am very susceptible to infection.
Efd, it's possible your new GI guy is right. Sludge could be the cause of your dilated bile duct. It can be released from the GB and enter the bile duct causing the duct to spasm. That can cause a blockage/backup of bile and pancreatic fluids, dilating the duct and even cause pancreatitis. And in some, there is a link between gallbladder issues and gastroparesis. Not in everyone, but?
At this point in time unless there are other complicating factors it might be a good time to consider removing your GB. Just remember to try to stay on a low fat diet after the removal. It can help your body to adjust to not having that organ any more.
