Body adjusting to Sobriety???

okay so here comes the most uncomfortable question i have yet to ask...but first some info:

i am a recovering alcoholic and cocaine user with 85 days sober today. i also quit smoking abut 16/17 days ago.
i am 26 years old and female.
i drank alcohol nearly 4-7x a week to the point of inebriation for a year and a half...the cocaine use in the last 8 months of that was occurring about 5 times a week doing a minimum of one to 2 grams a day.

i went to rehab and have been eating healthy, exercising 5 days a week...however i can't stop farting. i read that people fart on average 14 times a day...i can do that in an hour easily. i could easily say i fart over 60 times a day...and they are not little ones either. if i try to hold them in because i am at work or whatever, i get the cramping situation...after i eat (it seems like no matter WHAT i eat) i become very noticeably distended (not sure of the spelling there) to the point it is like: WHOA. this gas situation is seriously getting me worried...it *****. no, actually i guess more appropriately...it blows. could the drugs have done permanent damage to my digestive system or is it my body adjusting to sobriety...i'm clueless and not sure if it is a situation that i should be worried about or not?
please help. im concerned i personally may be the cause of global warming. ;)

First, congratulations on your sobriety. Keep it up! (The pastor at my church went through the same thing as you, and he describes a lot of it in detail: calvaryftl.org.)

Second, your symptoms could be a LOT of things, including your body adjusting to your sobriety. Particularly, the bacteria in your stomach could be adjusting their levels. So before anything else, I recommend getting on probiotics. You can pick these up at any health food store.

Of course, considering what you've put your body through, again it could be a lot of other things, so you might want to consider visiting a gastroenterologist about your symptoms, just to make sure it's nothing serious. (Your entire gastrointestinal system has taken a pretty big hit.) However, I would first and foremost recommend the probiotics. (The "Activia" yogurt, I've found, is very helpful, so if you can't find a health store near you, look for that at any grocery store, instead.)

Good luck, and again, congratulations.
