2 weeks ago I came down with a stomach virus. I ended up relapsing a few days later because I went back to normal foods to soon, I was eating oatmeal, salad, a turkey wrap, buttered noodles. I went to the doctor and he recommended I go on a liquid diet for 24 hr and then ease into bland foods. A couple days went by and I realized I wasn't feeling any better, I was nauseous all day and could only take a couple bites of food before I felt extremely full. I also felt burning in my stomach, burpiness, sour taste in my mouth, tightness in my chest, and like something was stuck in my throat. I went back to the doc and he said I might have developed gastro reflux disease. So he put me on omeprazole. I've had 5 doses, and I do see a little improvement. I don't feel nauseous all day anymore, the burning sensastion and stomach aches have subsided a bit (occasionally I do feel a little sensitive though) but I still feel like something is caught in my throat. My appetite hasn't really come back, I am able to eat a little bit more, but still not very much before I feel really full. I'm scared because I've lost a lot of weight from this and I'm already pretty small, I don't have much more to spare. I'm still eating pretty bland foods, rice, toast, plain pasta, chicken noodle soup, plain potato. Is there anything else I can eat. How do I know when I can move onto other things/go back to a regular diet. Can I eat dairy yet, what about a pb&j sandwich, is oatmeal okay? What about fruit? I would like to start gaining my weight back. My mom suggested I drink Ensure, but I'm really nervous to try anything, I don't want to feel nauseous or get an upset stomach, or feel the way I did when I relapsed.
My other question is, is this something that is going to go away or will I have this the rest of my life? I don't have much energy, eating and trying to go about a regular day instead of just sitting in bed all day makes my stomach feel all swirly and that feeling in my throat comes back. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would really appreciate any answers. Thank you.
