I've had dysphagia for several months. I've been to my third g.i. doctor now. I don't have acid reflux and had an upper endoscopy. Biopsies were normal and esophagus looked normal. I have Behcet's disease. My g.i. doc has ordered an esophageal manometry test. I tried once and couldn't endure the test. It was horrible. When gagging I felt as if I was choking and drowning. I pulled the tube out twice. We have rescheduled. I am terrified of the test and shake when thinking about it. I will be seeing a psychologist who can hopefully teach me to relax. My doctor will prescribe a relaxer for me. How much will this help? Has anyone had this test and had problems like me? How did you get through the test. I've been praying. I know I won't die or drown, but it's terrifying. They have not ruled out achalasia so this test must be done. I've read they sedate children for this test. Does anyone know about this? Has anyone been sedated and then awakened to do the test? Has anyone had a sedative and it helped?
I appreciate any guidance, links to resources, or recommendations of med. centers.
Thanks!
