Having second repair, first was laproscopy. Also having paraesophagael Hernia

What do they do in an open nissen fundoplication, recovery time, food to eat after, i know a long term healing is expected anywhere from 8-12 weeks.
I am scared to say the least. Especially with the second repair, paraesophagael Hernia with Mesh.  Has anyone been through this before, what should I expect when I wake up after surgery, etc.

Thanks so much. I am having all of this done rather soon. January 19, 2012

Hi, wondered how your open nissen went. Was this your first? I had two in 2009 with the small five incisions and one open in 2010 with open large incision. All three have failed and now I have to have a gastric bypass for my gerd and reflux as I am so scarred and cut inside. Hope yours went well. How are you feeling and is all your gerd reflux gone?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  Things like recovery time in a nissen fundoplication really vary between people.  I have never had this procedure but I hope it goes well for you.
