Imuran and diverticulitis

I have had 3 bouts of diverticulitis in 10 months which is unusual for me , normally its 1 every 2 or 3 years. I'm on imuran for autoimmune hepititis. I have been very lax in taking this medicine if the last few months after taking it for about 6 years, could this be the cause ? Antibiotics take longer and longer to work and the pain is terrible. I had a colonoscopy last year and it showed mild diverticulosis and a few small polyps.(which they removed) . Whats happening ? Am I getting immune to the antibiotics too ?

Thanks for the info , did your diverticulitis clear up completely between bouts? I put myself on a liquid diet and low fiber to give my colon a rest , now my bm is watery and what substance there is is tiny and squiggly (if you can understand that) LOL
I can't imagine 5 bouts in that short of time . I'm giving it a few days to see what happens and i've been on all the meds you mentioned too. My Dr wants to do an MRI if this doesn't clear up completely. Another thing i've noticed is my stomach gurgles quite abit and its not quiet, I have not had that problem before , did yours ? Thanks again for the input.

Hi.  I experienced 6 attacks of diverticulits over a 5 month period.  I was on multiple antiobiotics, over and over: cipro, flagyl , levaquin to name the ones I was on the most.  Nothing seemed to help as it keep coming back.  I ended up in the hospital over the holidays and was advised to have an elective colon resection due to all of the scar tissue that had formed and the fact that my colon, in the sigmoid area, was starting to stricture( close up).  I had it over 3 months ago and am recovering, although slower than I hoped.....lol...I am a very impatient patient.  I don't know if I was immune to the antibiotics or not, but know they weren't working!  I would suggest seeing a GI doc as he was also recommending " other options" after the 3rd attack.  Hope this helps...
