Is my family doctor mistaken?

Hello all...

For the past couple of years I have had an abnormal amount of gas, have felt constantly bloated and have recently gone to see my doctor about it as it is becoming more problematic.  However, I wonder if my doctor's solution is not the right one.

My symptoms include horrible gas (a horrifying smell beyond that which one could possibly find acceptable in an elevator), constant bloating & slight off-again, on-again pain in the upper left abdominal quadrant and last, but not least, loose stools (when there are any: I can be constipated for a couple of days & then be unable to stop going for a couple of days)...  Also, in the last three months I have gained about 10lbs even though none of my eating habits have changed.

Just to add to the problem, there is no family history of anything at all related to the stomach, bowels or any related matters.  I am 23 years old and am about average height/weight (5' 7" & 140lbs)

My doctor seems to think that it's

My doctor sent me for a GB ultrasound, they said that they had trouble seeing anything because of the gas build-up and have now scheduled me for a HIDA scan.  As for any changes, I was told to pay close attention to that and I have...  It doesn't matter what food groups I'm eating from, it seems like everything has the same effect.  The furthest I have traveled in last couple of years was from New York to North Carolina about 6 months ago, but the symptoms have been around longer than that.  I haven't started or stopped any medications in that time period.  The only two medications I take is an albuterol inhaler and occasionally a xanax.

If your doc thinks it's your gallbladder, rule it out by going through a series of tests. You'll need to check liver and pancreatic enzymes and probably do a GB ultrasound to check to see whether you have stones or sludge.

In the meantime, did anything happen before all this started? Did you start or stop any medications? Or travel anywhere? Any changes in diet? Does what you're eating seem to make any difference in what's going on?

Sorry, I clicked-on by mistake...

Anyway, my doctor thinks that it is my gallbladder, but I don't think that I fit any of the stereotypical types of people that are affected by gallbladder problems.
