He had both large and small comletely removed?
Never heard of this drastic of a removel. Clearly he has a colastomy. I have familial polyposis/gardners syndrome, had a collectomy 30 years ago.. It is a blessing he didn't have only. Small or large removed but not both. When they hook up the end of the small intestine to the rectum, as in my surgery, after removal of all the large. I've had 20 blockages since that 1st surgery, 14 ER hospitalizations 5 to 14 days each, emergency surgeries, ng tubes put down while your awake is torture. Chronic diharea, each blockage is a knife gutting you. These are things he doesn't have to suffer. I just think of the poor kids all over the world who live in terrible conditions, I don't have it so bad. By the way, I was born with only one kidney, damaged urethra & ureter, neurogenic bladder, I have to catheter to pee, cannot have kids, who wants to marry a guy like that. I have other med issues, no room here. Just get right with God and looking for answers that can help as it seems you are.
I don't believe that any reconstructive surgery or living relative donor inplants are ever done in this case. You can live without a large intestine but you need TPN to be able to live without a small intestine. I think that it is rare to do a small intestinal transplant in someone of that age, but I am not sure on that. However, many improvements have been made on TPN and people can live years and years just on TPN.
he is 53 and yes he is on tpn
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! How old is he? Is he currently on TPN?
