Following a low fat diet is what got her into this situation in the first place. I wonder what is the reasoning behind such a suggestion...?
If we didn't need the gallbladder, we wouldn't evolve with it. It's not just some remnant from the past, like the tailbone. It's function is to help with the processing of fats, and common sense tells me that if we're not supposed to eat fats, it would of disappeared in the evolution long time ago. No?
By not eating fats, you're forcing your gallbladder to just sit there idle, all loaded with bile. Bile that is not used for longer periods of time may form into a sludge...
The only reason I mentioned those two types of fat is becuse the third type, polyunsaturated, is very unhealthy. But that really doesn't matter if you consume it only for a few days - which should be enough to get the gallbladder working as it should.
I would really love to hear doctor's oppinion on this.
Valmar, eating forms of fat could cause you to have more discomfort. If you're pregnant, it's possible the sludge might resolve after delivery. If you're taking any form of hormones, you might want to try discontinuing them to see if that will change the situation around a bit.
Following a low fat diet is often recommended. But if the discomfort continues your doctor may suggest that you have the gallbladder removed if the pain you're experiencing is due to the presence of the sludge.
Try eating lots of saturated and mono-unsaturated fat: butter, heavy cream, cheese, bacon, etc. Eating these in quantity will force your gallbladder to do it's job, and maybe it forces the sludge out.
