Narrow/flat/ribbon stool

So I've been having issues with my stool caliber. Not really sure when it started but I noticed my stools seemed flatter than normal. The only other symptoms that I've had is occasional constipation. I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy soon but I wanted to check to see if anyone had similar issues and what your outcome was. I have a feeling it could be related to my prostate but I'm unsure. Has anyone had an enlarged prostate cause changes in stool shape. I'm a 29yo white male.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums and thank you for the question.  A change in stool that persists like this should be checked out with a physician.  Perhaps it is due to the compression due to enlarged prostate but you would want confirmation from a doctor to make sure that it wouldn't be something else compressing such as a tumor.  By no means meant to scare you but our suggestion is to get checked out by your doctor. Other issues that can cause narrow stool are Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  https://www.mayoclinic.org/narrow-stools/expert-answers/faq-20057781.

Had the colonoscopy a couple days ago and everything looked good. No polyps or structural issues. Gastroenterologist believes my symptoms are caused by spasms.
