Odd feeling and croaking in throat

I'm a 20 year old female who's been having issues with the throat. This started when I was about 7/8 years old but a sip of a drink or a suck or bite of a mint would ease it. I thought it was just my nerves until late high school when I began to grow intense and can be painful in the throat at times. It starts with a sort of odd sensation in the throat, almost like it's numbing. Then comes the gagging feeling with it. The feeling that something is stuck in the throat but there's nothing there in reality. I have been formally diagnosed with IBS but change in diet hasn't helped at all with the throat. I have developed a lactose intolerance of sorts about a year ago. I have bad allergies and mild asthma. I don't know if any of these are related but I figure it better to put them out there in case there is a connection. I have had a barium(sp?) swallow, abdomal and thyroid ultrasound and test and had an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor look down the throat. None have found anythong wrong.
I get a brief reprieve from a pop or burp type thing in the throat and for a few seconds I feel better, but it 9 out of 10 times comes right back. No one can seem to give me any ideas or reasons for such occurances and now I have younger sibling who's begun to experience similiar symptoms. I have to wonder if it could be a genetic thing, something with the bone structure, if it's a too narrow or wide throat or if's gastrointestinal at all. Any help would suffice

Razzle, you may want to consider checking out whether the 'lactose' issue is really lactose intolerance via testing, or could be casein intolerance which is entirely different. Casein is the major protein in milk and many people think they have lactose intolerance when it's not the case at all. It could be due to casein and that produces a different reaction. Lactose problems result from not having the enzyme to digest lactose. Casein problems result from producing antibodies to the casein and that's an autoimmune issue that can result in very different symptoms which might be what's causing some of what you're going through.

If you're reacting to casein, you can also cross-react to other substances such as gluten. You may want to double-check.

Thanks for the reply, CGal. By of sorts, I mean that a little tiny bit of milk won't hurt if it's in a product already but cheese, milk, butter, even yogurt itself or added to a product, I can't go near it. I have bad nasal allergies like mold, dust, certain animal dander, etc. No specific food has seemed to cause it and it occurs whether I've eaten recently or not. No, it's not mucous in the throat.

Razzle, what do you mean by a lactose intolerance of sorts? What allergies do you have and what are the symptoms? Do you experience an increase in mucus in your throat, or? Do any food 'precipitate' the feeling you're describing?
