Opinions wanted, Please!!

Hi there, I just turned 29 yrs old. For the last few years I have had blood and mucus off and on when I have a bowel movement. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for this Friday and I am quite worried that it could be colon cancer. My aunt died of colon cancer at the age of 38 yrs. Does anyone know of what this could be? Are there other things other than colon cancer that could cause these symptoms? Sometimes when I bleed I can feel what feels like a sore type of sharp pain a few inches inside my rectum. It's too far inside, so I cannot see it and do not know what it could be. Does it sound like a hemmoroid? I just don't know what to think. I hope it's not colon cancer!! Any ideas??

Hi!! I am really worried about my mother.  She has had severe pains in her stomach for years....They only come about once a year but there really bad.  She just had one last night for the first time in a year!! I woke about about two a.m. lastnight and heard her moaning when i walked in she was holding her stomach and in really bad pain.  More than 7 years ago she had the same attack my father took her to the hospitol to get her checked out but they could not diagnose the problem.  When she has these attacks she has uncontrolable diahrea and vomiting...Also i noticed lastnight that when she was vomiting she was also throwing up blood ....Do you have any idea what this may be??She is making an appt next week to see a stomach specialist but i am worried if you can help me think of some ideas of what this maybe i would greatly appreciate it thanks.

Hi Carissa - blood and mucous in your stool could be inflammatory bowel disease: Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis. You can get blood in your stool from haemorrhoids, but I don't think mucous. The colonoscopy should diagnose the problem properly. Good luck on Friday.
Take care, Liz.
