Red Blood

Hi,

I am a 22 year old female, generally good health. Four days ago I went to the washroom and my stool had many red lines in it, as well the water in the toilit was completely red, there was also a large blood clot in the bottom of the toilit. I have been so freaked out about this the last couple days that I have been to scared to go to the washroom. I did go to the washroom the day before and and there was no blood and daily normal before that. There has been no pain or discomfort in any area, other than stomach pains for the last week or two.

I havent changed or done anything to my diet to really change anything. Though I have recently started taking Folic Acid, I dont think that would have caused it but it was worth the mentioning.

After realizing how bad it was this time i realized that this has happened about once a month for the past four months but not to this extent.

I am going to the doctors tomorrow. But was hoping for some answers or guidence seeing as i have no idea what is going on.

Thank you
Jade

Thank you
Jade

Jade,
Blood in the stool is a sign of internal bleeding. Since it was bright red means the problem is near the end of the colon. Bleeding higher up will give you dark tarry looking stools. This could be several things, but the first 2 things I can think of is a leaking hemorrhoid or an irritated polyp. Not to scare you, but rectal bleeding is a warning sign of colon cancer.

How are your BMs normally? Do you have any problems with diarrhea or constipation? You say it has happened monthly for the past 4 months, does it happen during your cycle? This could be related.

Any rectal bleeding is a serious matter and should be checked out by a doctor immediately.
