yeah if mints cause some serious problems then maybe looking into fructose intolerance would be a good idea since they bring on major problems and mints are made of mostly sugars. But they seemed to help me a little bit at least trying to get through the difficult and long tests like a HIDA scan..but yeah i've heard others say mint extract helps. But I just used the normal peppermints or whatever they are (the red and white swirly cheapie grocery store kind). I also have xanax and it works but i've only taken maybe one or 2..since doing this diet I haven't had to take any more.
speaking of that HIDA scan; I had an ultrasound that was negative but when they did the HIDA scan my gallbladder was only working 12% so even with a negative ultrasound you still can have gallbladder issues and that HIDA scan would rule that out. I had mine removed and of course it didn't fix the problem but you still could be having gallbladder problems but the scope is also important to do in case there's a ulcer or non h.ploryi ulcer going on. Mine showed gastritis, which makes sense if you're eating something you shouldn't so..yeah..anyway keep fighting and keep at it, there's an answer out there :)
Thanks so much! I'll try the altoids thing. Is it just peppermint that is good? For some reason I had mints months ago and it hurt my stomach really bad but maybe it was a diff. flavor of mint. I just googled mint and nausea and some people suggest using mint extract and breathing it in so I'll try that tomorrow for sure.
I also have xanax for anxiety problems. I rarely take it but when I do it helps my stomach a lot. One of the only things that actually does. Maybe it works like the librax you recommended. I had an ultra sound about a month ago and everything came back negative so we shall see. Thanks again for answering my questions :)
ha it's ok :) probably already heard this but as long as you're not fructose intolerant and i'm not sure about gluten...
but altoids or even simple peppermints at the grocery store seem to calm the gut down at least temp. Or even mint tea of some type..but the candy was much easier to deail with. They helped me get through some tests/xrays/ct scans by sucking on a peppermint candy...but not gum..that would just make things worse for me. Also sometimes a antispasmodic like librax also helps calm the gut down and there's a small hint of a anti-anxiety drug mixed in it. But it shouldn't be taken long term because you'll end up with constipation, and get hooked on it.
Yeah it's hard dealing with nausea but I have a bad hunch that's your problem unless that ct scan finds something or gallbladder issues are the problem (usually blood tests suggest something is wrong but not always. A hida scan and a ultrasound is best)
Nausea is one of those things doctors just throw a dart at the board and pray they get lucky honestly. If you said you had lower left pain you'd be doing a colonoscopy instead of a endoscope so it's good to write down every symptom you're having. Anyway good luck on the scop Lmarie :)
Hey I just replied to you on my other post haha but I had a question for ya. What other things have you used to help with the nausea? I need something to get through the day. The only thing I have had results from is Ginger. That doesn't last very long though. I know you suggested that one pill but is there anything else?
well I just replied to Lmarie's post but ....
I went through the same loose stools nausea..sometimes severe..
might not be for you, but I did a food elimination diet. I went to an allergist and got tested and found out i'm allergic to oats (didn't even know it..) and then he said there's really no accurate test for testing food intolerances (there is a blood test for celiac but it's not the best)
so honestly i'd cut out dairy/soy/gluten/fructose for a good 2-6 weeks..get a good gluten free sugar free multivitamin and eat turkey and rice..salads (spinach) and such or if you have insurance head on over to a allergist. Get tested for celiac and there's a non-invasive test for lactose/fructose intolerance. If all is negative just go on a gluten free diet for a good couple of months...I didn't believe it myself but turns out if I drink fuit juice or maple syrup I get seriously ill.. I thought it was soy but...you very well could be having some food intolerance and not know it. Casein is a product of milk..and even small amounts of that can make people seriously sick. Just gotta figure out what the culprit is.
In the meantime promethazine..which I don't think is gluten free is a good nausea pill that I used..knocks you out sadly so you just take 1/2 a pill but I liked that one...
good luck :S
Wow this sounds very similar to what I have been dealing with. I'm really sorry you are going through this but I'm kind of relieved I'm not the only one. I have been feeling nauseous for almost 9 months! Almost everything makes me feel sick. I can't eat any good foods or drink alcohol/caffeine.
I was put on Omeprozol but that did nothing for me. Now I'm on nexium and that hasn't worked either. I'm soo frustrated and it's the worst ever feeling sick every day. It all started the same month I turned 21 so I haven't been able to drink and go out with friends. I feel so sick that I can hardly do anything and I feel like I'm a burdon on my boyfriend. I'm also very scared I have cancer or something. I can't think of anything that could make a peson this sick for so long and I'm really worried.
I have an endoscopy sceduled for this coming Saturday so hopefully I'll find something out there. I suggest you should scedule one also. My G.I. diagnosed me with gastritis but I don't think gastritis hurts this bad! It would be nice if we could keep in touch because I would love someone to relate to about these issues. Best of luck!

Do you have diarrhea after having your gallbladder out? Or other symptoms?
Also im still owndering about the amylase being slightly raised - anyone know?
I have had my gallbladder removed. With fatty or spicy foods, if you have gallbladder disease it can make you feel terrible and can be exacerbated by alcohol too. I also had problems with constant hearburn and gas and sometimes loose bms One night I was really nauseated after having a burger and fries and vomitted all night long with stabbing pain in my upper abdomen.. Your doctor could do a CT or ultrasound to see if that is the case. I feel great after having the surgery.
An update.
In the last week i have continued cutting out fatty foods, dairy and caffiene. i have had two days where i have felt almost normal, except i have been having bad headacahes and dizziness, which may be down to the change in diet?
Today i went back to the doctors for my blood test results. Everything came back normal, except for slightly elevated amylase levels. He asked if a possible diagnosis had been offered and suggested either gallstones or food intolerance.
My question is - what does slightly elevated amylase levels mean?
You should have an urine test to see if you have urinary infection.
You should ask gastroenterologist to have an urea breath test for Helycobacter pylori. This bacterium causes chronic gastritis with nausea, burping and upper stomach pains. Treatment is with antibiotics.
