Return of hiatal hernia

I had double hiatia hernia surgery in Sept. 2006.  My recovery was fine and within the year i lost 100 pounds and have kept it off.  The other day I was sick and coughing a lot.  All at once it felt like my somach ripped open inside. the pain
was horrible for about 10 to 15 minutes.  I couldn't stand up staight. Just as I called my husband home to take me to the hospital it started to loosen up and ease off.  Now gradually over the last few days I am having trouble all over again with my food getting stuck and not wanting to go down. It feels just like before when I had the other hernias.  Could I have caused another one or a tear when I had the pain from coughing? I am also having some reflux again. This is the first time since the surgery that I have had any problems.

Hey can't call the doctor until Tuesday.  I forgot about the holiday. But today has been the same. Lots of indigestion and my food seeming to hang up. I am trying to be carful about what i eat so I can control this as long as I can without surgery.   The only advantage I see to having to have surgery again is the weight loss.  You can only have liquids for 3 weeks and soft foods for a while after that.  By then your stomach is so small you can't eat much without really hurting.  But I had rather skip the surgery and just get back on a diet!

Thanks, I do plan to call my doctor Monday.  I was just wondering if this had happened to anyone else. We are in the middle of moving and the timing couldn't be any worse. I appreciate your advice!!!

It is possible for the wrap to loosen. You should probably get in touch with your doc and have it checked out.
