Lying flat or sitting at an angle causes choking feeling

tzm
I wonder if anyone has heard of this problem?

Since August 2006 I've had a choking (closing up/tightening) feeling in the back of my throat whenever lying flat on my back or sitting in a chair/couch at an angle of 45 degrees or more. The only way I can sleep is on my stomach. When I wake up and sometimes late during the night I feel an acid feeling close to my mouth.

During a six week or so period I had a bunch of sores on my tongue but that has stopped. Perhaps unrelated.

Some days my stomach feels a dull pain that is constant. The only time I feel good is when eating.

I've tried all the drugs like Prevacid, Nexium, Pepcid AC, Tums, Calcium Citrate, etc..

I've tried things like DGL, Marshmellow Root, Slippery Elm, etc..

I've had Endoscopy and Colonoscopy tests. Hernia test. Pancreatic test. Blood tests. All negative.

When this began last year I had a lot of belching. That has mostly stopped.

Now I'm left with a bloating feeling most of the time and this choking feeling whenever in a flat position.

I eat very well. Little processed foods and mostly whole grains and vegetables. Don't drink, smoke or do any drugs. However,  certain foods like pizza, ice cream and other heavy dairy products as well as a social drink of red wine don't sit well with my stomach.

I notice that stress or when I get aggravated from something tends to cause my stomach to feel worse. I live in NYC and don't unfortunately have good sleep habits. Tending to work at home (self-employed computer consultant) late until 2am and waking up at 7 or 8am. I've always functioned on 5 hours or so of sleep. I'm trying to make better sleep habits, especially since just getting married because if this doesn't kill me first... my wife will...if I don't get to bed earlier.

I am concerned that long-term I am doing damage to my stomach and esophagus. I'm not sure what kind of doctor to see next. I've searched on the internet for symptoms like mine but find very little.

I would appreciate any ideas, thoughts, suggestions.

Many thanks,
Todd

My doctor says it's acid reflux,  he prescribed me pills for it but they don't seem to help at all

I'd love to know what the hell this is if anyone knows!!
