Stomach problem

Hi I have pain behind my breastbone and slightly to the left side under my ribs, with excess gas and bloating to my stomach. I have also have heartburn occasionally. This has got progressively worse in the past year since having an endoscopy which found nothing untoward other than inflammation due to excess stomach acid.

TY but my gastroenterologist discharged me from any further investigations saying there was nothing else he could help me with and my gp will only prescribe Esomeprazole. This doesnt help at all. Over the counter indigestion remedies do help but I have to use large quantities.

Hi there!

Well, without a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation. Inflammation due to excessive stomach acid could be responsible for the symptoms as well. Other possibilities that may need to be considered include chest wall inflammation, costochondritis, causes related to the cardiovascular system/ respiratory tract, pleuritis etc. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating gastroenterologist. Meanwhile you could try taking some OTC antacids and see if these seem to help with the pain.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
