Chronic Vomiting

I've basically given up.  But maybe somebody else can shed some light.  In 1994 I started vomiting on a daily basis.  Sometimes a couple times a day, sometimes once.  Every once in a while I'll go for a day without vomiting.  Very little pattern to it.  Only pattern I've recognized is that ice cream will almost always result in vomiting within about 10 minutes.  Otherwise it can happen on an empty stomach, a full stomach, or anywhere in between.  Dairy products or no dairy products.  Only thing I can connect is that it started within about a month of spending 3 months in South America.  No major GI illnesses while there though.  I've been through the GI battery twice and full neurological workups.  Everything came out normal.  I do have Arnold-Chiarri malformation which was surgically corrected in 92, so neurological workups are always slightly abnormal anyway.  Sometimes I wonder if this could be masking some neuro deficit that is causing.  I've given up trying to find a cause.  Just have learned to live with it.  Thought it might be psychological, but my psychiatrist says nothing about it is consistent with psych manifestation.  Not severly debilitating.  Just very annoying and gross.  I do worry about long-term impact and higher potential for esophageal or stomach cancer.  Open to any ideas.

Thanks for answering!  It varies depending whether I have a full stomach.  It is not bile.  Usually just dry-heaves if I have an empty stomach.  The last upper endoscopy I had was about 7 years ago.  Truthfully the only thing I remember from the path report was an overall normal interpretation.  Some lining inflammation, but nothing significant.  Probably going to insist on another soon since it's been so long.  Last time I asked for one my primary just prescribed a proton inhibitor to see if it worked (even though we had already tried to no avail).  Last night vomited a good amount of blood (coffee ground emesis) so it's renewed my interest in trying to find answers.

When you vomit, what are you bringing up? Is it bile? Have you had an upper endoscopy? If so, what did the pathology report and doc's report say? Not what the doc told you, what you yourself read.
