Want to get off Prevacid...has anyone done so?

I supposedly have GERD and have been on Prevacid for 2 years. Thing is I'm not sure what's causing it; my doc is assuming it's a weak LES, and if it is, I can't see ever getting off the meds. If it isn't, I'd think it'd be much easier.
Has anyone done anything that helped their GERD without Rx meds? (like holistic, herbs, whatever) I know there's a relapse when you go off it, which I'm scared of (I went w/out meds for 2 days once and had terrible acid and diarrhea). My doc doesn't see any reason to go off them if they work.
Before I went on meds, I was only having a problem with feeling gag-like (like I would throw up) in my throat; not really an acid problem. But I was told there was acid in my throat. That's why I'm assuming (as is my doc at that time) I have GERD.

Something that has helped me was Aloe vera juice, they even got it in Wal-Mart, its suppose to balance levels in your stomach, so I've read, and it did help me alot, and also eat alot of apples, and you have to avoid all those greasy, fatty foods or make a list of the ones that mess you up, I'm pretty sure you know wich ones they are by now, I quit Meds and still have symptoms but the problem was that the Meds never worked and I know for a fact that they are not good on the long run.....

Yes I've had 2 endoscopies done, but PRIOR to being diagnosed w/GERD; they were done for another reason. My doc said it would be hard to measure doing an endoscopy...I guess they'd have to measure to see about a weak LES??
I've also been on Prozac and Xanax for many many years. My doc did not suggest going off them, again b/c 'if the meds work, why worry about going off them?' He's a dumb ***.

Hi.  Have you ever had an endoscopy done?  That is when they go down your throat with a small camera and look.  I have GERD and have had it done 2 times.  I was on Prevacid and have been for years.  I recently switched to acidphex due to the high cost of the Prevacid.  It seems to work the same.  I do not know any holistic remedys as I have never try.  When mine acts up, I get nauseaus bad... and feel sick to my stomach all the time.
