Are there cases where a Ruptured Appendix is never removed?

8 weeks ago I felt like I had a bad case of gas and my stomach was bothersome. I developed a fever and more abdominal pain so I went to see a doctor. While I was lying down he touched different areas to see if it was an appendicitis and had me jump up and down to see if I was in any pain, I was not any more pain then I was already in.

He concluded that my best bet would be to take Nexium for heart burn, Cipro for a general antibiotic, and maximum strength ibuprofen for the fever - he gave me a weeks’ worth.

Well the week that followed was the worst week of my life, I did as the doctor said but had intense fever still with pain and periodically had uncontrollable shaking for as long as 40 minutes at a time.

Now mind you, I have never really been sick in my life and assumed my body and medication would beat this and this was just side effects of the healing process.

After a week the pain went away but the shaking and fevers did not so I checked into emergacare. They were about to send me home when they realized my fevers would not go down with medication. I was then transferred to a hospital.

It didn't take long for the doctors to figure out my appendix burst and an abscess had formed.

Initially the plan was to drain the abscess but the Dr. said there was no "window" and then lectured me on the benefits of a less evasive process by simply taking antibiotics.

I was in the hospital for 10 days on the 3 different types of antibiotics, Flagel, Cipro and another that escapes my mind currently.

I was sent home even though I still had fever because the latest cat scan showed my abscess was nearly gone so I was prescribed 2 more weeks of Flagel and Cipro.

A week later I do my follow-up and they suggest another cat scan but there was an insurance foul up so it never took place.

Around day 12 of the 2 week antibiotic home treatment my fevers went away.

The doctor in charge told me they were not going to remove my appendix because it has fused to my bowels and they assured me that in time my body would absorb my appendix because it is just simply scar tissue now.

I returned to work shortly thereafter as a plumber and one day when using the jack hammer my stomach started to act up again. I only experience pain where my appendix is - if my daughter jumps on my stomach or I get nudged with an elbow.

My question as stated above, will I be okay with this appendix still inside me? How long will I experience unusual pain in my side due to physical contact? I would like to get back to working and enjoying hobbies like basketball again.
