Abdomanal pain

Can anyone offer any advise please I have been suffering with lower abdominal pain for almost 3 months now & everytime I eat I am sick also I am unable to open my bowels for between 7 to 10 days & have lost almost a stone & half since the complaint began.  Prior to all this happening I was a pretty healthy 29 yr old female but now I am in constant pain which is preventing me from doing the most simple of things.

Well good to hear that you have had plenty of tests to rule out anything major, although your issue can certainly be considered major.
The most common treatments for your issue are high fiber diets, which you seem to be following. They also say a colon cleanse at least 3 times a year, since your colon is not allowing the waste to be dispelled as often as it should.
Im actually surprised that your GI has basically told you that they really dont know what to do. I would recommend talking to another GI doctor and asking them if there is any other form of treatment you can seek.

Well according to this perticular Dr this is actually normal to go so long between BM & I am apparently on the strongest painkillers there are without been given morphine injections (having done a brief internet search there are 3 other levels of pain relief prior to this).  Then to top it all off I decided last night to re-read all the leaflets from my tablets & was supprised to find out I should not be taking two of the tablets they had prescribed together as the both do the opposite of each other so are just canceling one another out what a joke.  Fortunatley after trying the new sickness tablets for a month & them just making me vomit more I decided to go back to the cyclazine last week that I was on prior to these as although they didn't stop me been sick the did reduce the No. of times I am but this was through my own judgement & not the Dr's who's ability I am now seriously doubting

Yea nothing worse than a doctor telling you its all in your head, when you can physically feel the pain and have to deal with the symptoms daily.
Im also shocked that him knowing that you go 10+ days without a BM, that he thinks thats a mental issue, when it is clearly a physical issue.

I know what you mean as they hinted at a growth in the begining I was worried about cancer but thankfully the colonoscopy came back clear.  I intend on asking to be refered to another Dr as he basically sat there & tried to make me believe its all in my head while laughing at me but he said he will refer me for a endoscopy & a further CT scan as my last one over 2 moths ago is apparently incomplete (cant believe how long its taken for this to be noticed) & I did not want these delaying any tests as he told me I would basicly starting at the bottom of the waiting list to see another specialist.  Thank you for your advise I appreciate any suggestions as when he realises I'm not going to be fobbed off & want to see another Dr then maybe I will be taken seriously as there is no way that these symptoms are normal & hopefully when I see the pain specialist next week they may be able to help to ease the pain so I can get some kind of life back if not for me then the kids as this is really unfair on them at the minute

Hi,

I am currently under a specialist at the hospital & while I was admitted they did the Barium Enima & that showed there was something in my lower bowel so was refered for a Colonoscopy which came back clear.  I was told the proceduere should take about 10 mins but the lady carrying out the procedure informed me my bowel & colon are very twisted & curvy so the procedure actually took almost an hr.  Now I never thought anything of her comment about the twisted bowel until a friend asked me if they had looked into twisted bowel. The Dr I am seeing has now told me that 'he has no idea what is wrong' & that 'they have a limited understanding of the human body' & asked me 'what my diagniosis is' hence me visiting this site for some kind of clue as to what to suggest at my next appointment as according to him these symptoms are 'nothing to be concerned by' & that 'there is nothing wrong as my body will change daily so it will improve by its self'.  But after 3 months of agony & constant sickness there must be some thing causing this to suddenly happen & prior to this I was healthy & very active now I have no energy for anything.

I have had the solution you mentioned for both the procedures & although the fleet prep medicine does clear my system at the time I am then back to been unable to go to the toilet again for a week to a week & half & then after finally going I am in even more pain for 2 to 3 day plus as the hospital said this is a very extreme way to enable me to open my bowels every time.

Im really concerned the the dr is just ignoring me & whatever is causing this is just going to be left un-diagnosed & I am just going to have to live my life been in constant pain & vomiting everyday which is not really ideal

Your best bet is to get to a GI doctor. If you cannot get a colonoscopy for whatever reason, see about getting a barium xray, so they can see if there is an obstruction or just severe constipation.

To try and get a good movement, I would do a "colonoscopy prep" Drink a 238 gm bottle of Miralax and a 64 oz. bottle of Gatorade(Combined) drinking it a little at a time, every 30 minutes til its all gone. This is done prior to colonoscopies and usually cleans people all the way out. If you do this and still cant have a bowel movement, you need to seriously get medical attention.

Really sorry to bother you all again but the pain is becoming unbearable & the painkillers are barley working now, I know I need to see the Dr again but worried I will get the same response as last time & him expect me to diagnose myself so any suggestions at all on what I can suggest is causing this then maybe he will begin to take me seriously as it's almost 3 months of been in constant agony now & I'm not sure how much more of this I can't even do the most basic of things anymore & my life is becoming pretty non existant as I'm physically & emotionally drained all the time lately

Kind regards

Thanks for your advise but I am currently taking 4 sachets of movicol a day with no effect even when I was in hospital & taking 8 a day I still only went to the toilet after 8 days & that was also after 2 supositries which failed to help.  Also when I do open my bowel it is only a small amount & I am left in worse pain than before for a day of 2.  I don't think this is just a case of normal constipation due to the fact I'm constantly been sick & am in a constant agony even after opening my bowels

Have you used any laxatives to see if that helps you have more frequent bowel movements? The lower abdominal pain could very well be tied to normal constipation. Try increasing your fiber and see if you dont start having more frequent bowel movements.

You can always go see a GI doctor, who will likely tell you the same thing, but it will give you a piece of mind and know that everything is good. Til you see another doctor, try more fiber, and using some laxatives to get things moving again. Metamucil, etc.

Hi I've been refered to a Dr at my local hospital after I was admitted & yesterday I went for an appointment & was pretty much told I'm just to carry on with the pain, sickness & constapation as 'he has a limited understanding of the human body' & 'what would I diagnose'.  I know this site can not give me a diagnosis but I was hoping I could get some suggestions for my next appointment as I do not want to 'wait for a year & see if it fixes it's self'
