Hello! This is a subject that would take more than a day to type. I suggest seeing a Neurologist ASAP. I wish I could give you my opinion, but there is not enough info. I hope others will post here that will give you their experiences.

Why a neurologist? I have had this for a year. I got a slight injury to my rotator cuff when my purse fell on my arm. Then, my shoulder froze up last year. It doesn't hurt except when I over stretch it. I only recently probably stretched too far and woke up with a rye neck.

Thanks, I stopped doing the exercises to see what happens because I think it was a neck strain or sprain. It is starting to feel better. It has been a year and 3 months since the injury. I didn't go to physical therapy but got exercises from my doctor and from an orthopedic site and have been making really good progress up until now. So, I'll do as you say. My injury was from my purse falling on the bicep or area where all the muscles meet under the shoulder. My doc thinks it is from competitive tennis also. Anyway, I sure hope this goes away on its own. I am at the stage where I can't get the last bit to straighten so I have been pushing hard on it. I also do my regular cleaning in the kitchen and bought a new stove and was scrubbing really hard with that arm before this happened. It may have done this. Maybe you can help me through this as time goes by?
I can't imagine having a frozen shoulder 4 times. That is awful. But I can see why the neck and shoulder would be involved because they are both tight in that area.

I just now saw your response. I hope you are doing better. That last little bit to straighten takes time. You may want to try using a towel. Holding each end using the good side to help pull gently, the other arm straight up beside your head.

That area that you mentioned sounds like the spot where several muscles join on the back and one of them extends down under the armpit. I also had problems in that area and a good massage therapist helped. One that is gentle and knows about stretching the fascia which sometimes forms scar tissue. All the best to you
Yes what you describe sounds like what I have. the area at top of the shoulder under the neck, is very tight. I think massage would help. But I worry they might be too rough. Perhaps a swedish or hot stone massage? What do you think of sports massage that knows trigger points, are they too rough? I haven't gone to them yet.

A sports massage therapist would likely know the need to be gentle, and they work according to how things feel under their fingers. It is always good to start off gentle, and by all means tell them if you want them to ease up a bit.
Personally, I'm not big on the stone massage, I feel the stretching of muscles and tissue by hand to be more beneficial. With injuries, sometimes it is the layer of tissue just need to be stretched out if it has formed scar tissue underneath your skin.

Each time the frozen shoulder took at least 1 1/2 years to resolve completely, and apparently that is common for it to take this long.
I wasn't faithful with doing the prescribed exercises due to feeling it was affecting my neck, and it resolved itself.
Try just easing up and doing your exercises gently, and see if your neck is still being affected. Good luck, it takes time....
