Good Vocal Tips For Singers

I don't know where else I could post this, so I'm posting it here.

I'm a singer, and I would like to know if you have any good strategies or tips for warming up before a show? I have a problem with warm-ups, and it makes my voice weaker than I know it can be. I'm looking for anything---stretches, vocal runs, anyrthing like that. Also, if you know anything like good foods for singing, things singers should avoid the day of a show, vitamins or whatever for vocal health. Any tips that you have, please!

I also dance. I like to dance while I sing, but sometimes during rehearsal I have some problems with my breath support. Any suggestions on posture or abdominal positioning?

Thank you for anyone who can offer any help! I really appriciate it!

Thank you so much for your help! I appriciate it. I do some vocal warm ups, and I'll try the ones you suggested.

How does on dance and sing at the same time... Carefully :) hahaha It takes a lot of practice. A lot of abdominal control and breath control. I'll run laps and sing along with my ipod at the same time. The trick is to know when your body is getting tried and needs to breathe while dancing, and time that with the music. It can be really hard, but it's fun.

Mostly it's muscular control and practice. A lot of practice. I've rehearsed while doing jumping jacks. I sing the songs that go along with my routines. That kind of thing. Then it becomes second nature.

I used to sing in my high school A Capella choir for three years so I know the importance of warming up your voice before a performance. Let's tackle the problems one at a time.

When Mr.Langton(our choir director) did warm ups we usually started out with the chromatic scale run. WE would sing the word AH with each chord progression and arpeggio with our mouths stretched three fingers wide(he would have us insert three fingers into our mouths to keep our mouths open...made you feel ridiculous standing there with your fingers in your mouth...LOL) Then we would do the same chromatic scales singing MAY ME MY MO MUM and continue until we reached the final chord in the progression.

We also did breathing exercises to learn how to breath between notes and phrases. He would make us draw a deep breath then do a stacatto HAHAHAHAHA again doing the whole chromatic scale. It worked a lot for me as a singer.

Now a question for you: How does one dance and sing at the same time? I have always wondered that myself when I see these big time performers running around on the stage and singing into their head mikes and are able to belt out the song without sounding like they are out of breath. If you can answer that one for me I'd be interested in knowing. As far as any suggestions on that...I haven't got a clue since I never did that kind of performing.

Lots of water:) Also don't eat dairy products 24 hours before you perform or sing. No cheese, chocolate, milk ect.
