Is it likely my grandma feels any pain or aware this is the end?

My granma is a 98 years old, she is now in hospital, her health has been going down since November, doctor said she has some complications with kidney and liver...

When I first saw her in November, she would appear sleepy, she would recognise me and ask how I am and ask the same question over and over again. There were times where she would come back to normal again, so would think she was getting better.

Last week she kept saying that she wants to get up, so when the nurses get her up, she still doesn't realise she has gotten up and says she wants to get up.

Since Saturday she has been lying in bed sleeping, waking up and sleeping, her sleep appears more like a yawn. She sometimes wakes up, smiles, then goes back to sleep mouth open wide like yawning constantly. She can't talk, she sometimes wispers, or makes noise, like trying to talk, but falls asleep. Sometimes she moves her fingers.

Nurse said it's only a matter of time... :(

I can't help but wonder, is she in any sort of pain these past few weeks? Is she likely aware she is dying?
Why does she appear like she's yawning, is it breathing problems?

I know she has asthma...

Hello~ (((((Hugs)))) for you. I know it has been a few months since you posted this,  but I wanted to say that I doubt that she was/is in pain, I think you would have noticed it by certain reactions.

I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma! Hugs to you. She may be at peace with it all. Not like us fighting it. She can probably hear what's going on in a semi conscious state. If she were in pain you'd probably see signs. She's not agitated which is good. Let us know if anything  changes. I'll be thinking of you and her.
