jaw pain

Hi, about 2 weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night clenching my jaw like crazy., I was in chronic pain all night and for two days following. I couldn't eat or speak I had to take hydrocodone every few hours just to knock me out so I didn't have to feel the pain. Today, now two weeks later my jaw is still very sore. I know I haven't clenched since and I have never had this issue before, I make sure to be aware during the day and at night i pillow myself in so I can only sleep on my back (when i sleep on my back my mouth falls open) . However in 2005 I had jaw surgery so I have plates in my jaw. I am concerned I may have done some real damage, Should I go to a Maxillofacial surgeon or is it normal for it to take this long to subside?

thank you

ouch!! To be completly honest I don't have a clue what this could be, but I would definetly see a doc since they pain is constant and severe. I wish I could have helped more. I hope you feel better soon.

Because you had surgery on your jaw, it is difficult for us to give much advice.  See your Dr. or dentist.  A dentist can help if it is TMJ.
