low ferritin

In the past 10 yrs. I've needed 4 units of blood due to low levels (hospitalized, upper and lower G.I. that were neg.).
A couple yrs. later had to take iron supplements, a few yrs later needed 6 iron infusions and now I need a total of 10 infusions due to low ferritin.

I have been taking Prilosec for a number of years now due to chronic digestive problems (i.e. gerd, acid reflux, etc). I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia during my hospital stay with no indications of any bleeding causing the anemia.

Could the daily use of Prilosec be my problem?

Contrary to the above post Prilosec is known to rarely have hemolytic effects and cause hemolytic anemia and anemia. This is unlikely, but possible. You should visit the fda site andfile an adverse drug effect report and discuss this with your physician.

Hello,

The prilosec is not known to cause bleeding and/or anemia.  What other medications are you taking?  Any other medical conditions?
