I cured mine by filing the whole nail bed as far down as it was safe to do so. Then, I soaked the affected foot in undiluted white vinegar for half an hour to an hour at least twice a day until I saw no more yellow. Everyday I also filed the yellow part a little bit more if it was possible to do so. The vinegar will only work if you file down the nail bed, because the trick is you have to get under the surface of the thick nail bed. The fungus is gone and has never come back. I would recommend against taking the prescription because insurance companies think that this is a "cosmetic" issue and won't cover the prescription. Clearly it is something more, but this is the way insurance companies think, and they're the ones holding the purse strings. The prescription might even make you feel sick, and that certainly is something you would want to avoid. The probiotics are a good idea for everyone to take, so there is nothing wrong with taking those, because imbalances in the gut do affect the entire body. I have had to take a different probiotic, though, because I can't afford Dr. Mercola's formula. I'm sure his is superior, but the problem is being able to afford it.
There are many anti-fungal meds availiable. I would go with the recommendation of your physician. Some of these antifungal meds can cause liver problems, i.e. the oral medication/pills, so you should be monitored if you are going to choose pills to take.
there are many new antifungal medications on the market. The one that I've heard works the best is not a topical solution it is a pill. Apparently it goes to the root of the problem killing the fungus where it starts, however you will need a script from a Dr. to get it.The name of it is called Lamisil in tablet form. Good Luck and F.Y.I. do not share any of your footcare items with your husband!
I unexpectedly got nail fungus last year, and I treated it with topical tea tree oil and I took Dr Mercola's Probiotic Packs Daily for bout 2 monts, it cleared it up and they have been fine since.
