Drink and blood

I have been reading some posts on here, and I would just like to double check that I am not at risk. A friend (whoose status I do not know) was holding my drink, and he had a cut on his hand, and I am not sure if some blood ran into my drink. My lip was sore because earlier in the day I had picked some skin off and it was kinda red and swollen. If the blood came into contact with my lip, would I still not catch HIV? And why? Is it because the virus cannot live long outside its' host? I'm sorry if this is asked a lot, I'm just trying to do some research to properly educate myself so I don't panic all the time. Thankyou.
