Valtrex and HIV oraquick test at 5 weeks

Well my last possible exposure to HIV was 5 weeks ago with unprotected sex with my bf (I'm gay), he told me he was negative but I'm not sure If he cheated on me. Anyways I get bad coldsore breakouts so i take Valtrex daily to prevent them. Well I had a rapid oraquick test today at 5 weeks and it was negative. But I was told that antivirals could delay seroconversion and that valtrex could delay HIV bit I don't know of that's true sinc it's only for herpes. So is my 5 week negative prety acurate even with valtrex? Thanks  I am just really worrying bout this a lot.

Thanks. Also I have developed an outbreak of spread out bug bite looking bumps, but I haven't been bitten by anything and I also have had a sudden cold sore outbreak. Could this possibly be related to HIV or do people not show symptoms of HIV for years? My previous partner kept reassuring he was HIV- and even went and got tested, but I just fear he could be lying about his test result. We started dating months ago and I slept with him starting 4 months ago and stopped 5 week's ago. Am I just being paranoid thinking these are symptoms. Thanks teak

3 month post exposure is when you can obtain a conclusive negative test result.

Valtrex does delay HIV if taken the day of exposure.  It will keep viral load low if continue taking.  I chatted with Dr margolis who did the study. Its a sensitive topic he said.
What is the study?
Do you have HIV? If you do not have HIV, the studies do not pertain to you.

Valtrex does not delay seroconversion or antibody detection. It *may* lower viral load, which has nothing to do with regular testing for HIV.

If you have further questions, please start your own thread as this one is many years old and contains some outdated information.
I came across this through my own research.  I found the study. Thx for your reply. I’ve tested negatives @ 4.5 mo 4th gen combo, 6 mo AB, 9 mo 4th gen combo and 9.5 RNA by PCA qualitative  and have been on 500 Valtrex once daily for 8 yrs. I experienced the early symptoms after exposure (didn’t know at the time I had no clue) but looking back on all my issues they are connected to that time frame. Something has drastically changed. I have a CT to check for meningitis on Tue, just got report of STAPH B positive, in constant PN, white tongue, headache, muscle aches, joint pain in left elbow. I will start a new thread once I figure out how. If you have any info could you please reply and help me out. I finally found a dr that is listening to me and is pretty perplexed by this. Do you know what else it could be? I’m praying it’s the staph B that has my body in disarray. I’ll start treatment for that on Monday.
I’ve never tested positive for HIV. 5 negative tests over 9.5 months. Unprotected vag sex with unknown HIV status. I’m female. He was male. I’m asking could the Valtrex affect the test results. I will start a new thread but wanted to thank you for replying. Sry for confusion.
Since you've tested negative, you don't have HIV. Therefore the studies you read are not relevant to your situation. That's the point. Valtrex will not impact you and does not delay seroconversion. Quote from curfew's post.  "Valtrex does not delay seroconversion or antibody detection. It *may* lower viral load, which has nothing to do with regular testing for HIV.".

Your anxiety is getting the better of you.  Stop reading things on the internet.  You've tested conclusively negative. Time to move on.
Thank you very much!
